We have been working behind the scenes to sort through the responses, concerns, and frustrations that have arisen following the announcement of our collaboration with Humanite Peace Collective. We have been paying attention, and taking the time to make sure we respond appropriately.

To get to the point, we’ve decided to move away from this project and collaboration with Humanite. There have been valid concerns, and I’d like to take a minute to address them.

First - I own that I did a terrible job in framing what this project is on the social media post. The campaign page held the deep-dive of this project, including the Palestinian team with headshots and bios. I did not communicate the details of this project effectively in my initial post.

I should have taken the time to detail this project fully on this platform, instead of attempting to drive people to go to the campaign page. I should have brought this to our community first and gotten feedback on this before we went forward. I fully own that I dropped the ball in that, and there is repair work here for us to do.

We’ve spent many days in conversations with Humanite - and on Monday, Heretic & Humanite came to the agreement that we part ways. Humanite will continue this project with the funds currently raised, and with whatever funds they continue to raise for this project. For Heretic, we are removing ourselves and refocusing closer to home.

To our community who has supported and loved us this past year: I'm sorry I've let you down. I'm sorry that I rolled out this project in a way that painted it differently than what it is, and I am sorry that we have put ourselves in a position where you are having to choose to trust us or not.

With a portion of the funds already raised, the Palestinian team leading the way on this project put together an event at a Gazan orphanage, where children played, laughed, and ate. As we exit this project, we wanted to end this with you saying these pictures.

We are building a coffee shop in Gaza.
And we will feed Palestinians for free, every day, no questions asked.

For years, our Palestinian neighbors have been living daily lives under the terror of genocide. Over 73,000 people have been killed, with 20,000 of them being BABIES.

More than just their lives have been stripped away. Their culture, places of rest, and businesses that gave them comfort and peace have been taken away.

We’re hoping we can do what we can to change that.
We are partnering with HUMANITE Peace Collective, an NGO who helps people before, during, and after war. The team at HUMANITE has 20+ years experience in providing resources, food, safety, and shelter in places destroyed by war.

Together, both Heretic & HUMANITE are doing what we do best: HUMANITE knows how to help people before, during, and after war, and Heretic knows how to bring people together for the greater good over a cup of coffee.

When I say “building a coffee shop,” I literally mean, we are building it from the rubble of war.
In order to open The DEPT. of PEACE, we have to raise $100,000.

We have seen miracles happen at Heretic, and today, I’m asking you to create a miracle for our Palestinian neighbors.

Hi friends, Josh here. I just wanted to share some things I'm feeling before we go into our big announcement for tomorrow. So, please humor for a couple minutes if you will, because I'm feeling a whole lot tonight.

Tomorrow, we're making the biggest announcement that I think we may ever make. I know that sounds hyperbolic, but I think once you see it, you'll understand.

I'm really nervous. I'm nervous because in a lot of ways, I feel like we're pushing all our chips to the center of the table. I'm nervous because this is going to take a massive outpouring of energy, resilience, love and generosity to make happen. I'm nervous because what we're attempting to pull off may actually take a handful of miracles.

However - the only reason this dream is being announced tomorrow is because of you all.

Since the very minute we said we would feed people for free, you all have been in our corner, and you continue to show up so we can continue do our life's work. I truly thought this would die off after all the viral-ness from last year; but you all continue to be here, supporting whenever we need it.

It is no joke to say, this project we're announcing will help people stay alive.

So, tomorrow - I'm asking if you would show up one more time. I'm asking if you would share, you would tell your friends and family, and you would do what you can to help make this project come alive - so other people can STAY alive.

Lastly - thank you. Thank you for letting us feed people. Thank you for letting us dream big. Thank you for being the heroes of this story. Without you, none of this would have been possible.

You all are such a gift.

Tomorrow is truly going to be a history day, for all of us here, and I hope you join us in the announcement.
