The best kids. Ever.
For the past 8-11 years, I’ve always made their birthday cakes—obviously. And I’ll admit, they’ve often been over the top and way more work than most people put into their kids’ cakes.
This year, though, they both requested something simple. I even offered custom cakes based on their themes—yes, I was ready to go full 3D Chatterbox—but they both said it would be too much effort and too much time spent in the bakery.
So instead, we went simple: crispy treats (made by my mother-in-law!) and a gooey butter cake with chocolate chip cookies for both of them.
Did they notice their mom has a hard time saying no to herself and secretly wanted me to enjoy their birthdays a bit more? Or maybe they just don’t like fondant. Either way, it was a good weekend. I didn’t spend hours baking, and instead got to spend more time with them enjoying their friend parties.
