We have found the Phoodery a great place to operate. Yes there have been some bumps along the way, but we love our location and our customers. We appreciate the changes that management has implemented. Our experience has been a positive one; they have been responsive to our concerns and are working to create an incredible community here. Come see us and the other small local business that call the Phoodery home!
There are questions and concerns going around about the recent departure of one of the businesses at The Phoodery, along with conversations about issues that occurred here in the past.
We have intentionally stayed quiet because we don't believe business disputes should be aired on social media. But we also understand that silence can leave people wondering, and we don't want ours to be mistaken as a lack of accountability.
So, we would like to clarify a few things.
💰 Recently, we terminated one of our restaurant's lease agreements for nonpayment of rents due. He was given the full grace period provided in his contract, but ultimately, those outstanding amounts were not paid.
His base rent was $1,900 monthly, contrary to what he posted online.
💁♂️There has also been some inaccurate information shared about the cost of operating a restaurant here at The Phoodery.
❌The Phoodery DOES NOT take a percentage of restaurant sales. Each restaurant pays 1/7 of shared operating expenses, while the Taphouse pays 2/7. These shared expenses have a defined cap and cover things like shared utilities, janitorial services, bussers, entertainment and other expenses associated with the shared (common) space.
📆Our restaurant partners meet bi-monthly and have a voice in these shared expenses, events and other decisions that affect the space. These things are discussed together, and our partners can vote on what they'd like to increase, decrease or change.
🎁The Phoodery also DOES NOT hand out restaurant gift cards on behalf of our restaurant partners. Contributions such as gift card prizes for Bingo, Trivia and meals for musicians have been discussed and agreed upon together.
Those are the facts we felt were important to clarify.
We're not going to turn this into an ongoing back and forth on social media, and we won't share private financial or contractual information simply to win an argument online. We have documentation related to these matters and are prepared to address them through the appropriate channels if necessary.
We also recognize that The Phoodery has a past. We aren't asking our community to forget it or pretend mistakes weren't made. What we can do is continue showing through our actions what this space is today.
‼️ Now for the important part: Right now, six of our seven restaurant spaces are occupied by independently owned local businesses. They employ local people, participate in community events and fundraisers, collaborate with one another and show up every day trying to build successful small businesses.
They are NOT apart of this dispute, and they deserve the opportunity to succeed without being caught in the middle of it.
We are incredibly grateful for the team we have today the Phoodery Taphouse, Truffle Pig, Busy Bea’s, Northwest Pizza, Seoul Stix, Hula Chill and we are excited about what they're building together.
We will keep listening when criticism is warranted. We will keep working to make The Phoodery better. And we will keep supporting the businesses, employees and community who have chosen to be part of this space.
We are not asking anyone to choose sides. We are simply asking that the businesses here today be judged by the food they serve, the people behind their counters and the experiences our community has with them today.
Thank you to everyone who continues to visit, ask questions, offer constructive feedback and support local small businesses.
