In Ethiopia, widely recognized as the birthplace of Arabica coffee, coffee is deeply woven into social and cultural life.

The traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony is a deliberate process that can stretch over several hours. Green coffee beans are roasted, ground, and brewed in a jebena, a traditional clay coffee pot, before being served to guests.

Traditionally, coffee may be served in three rounds, each with its own significance. But the ceremony is about far more than what's in the cup. It's a time for conversation, hospitality, connection, and strengthening relationships.

In a world where coffee is often something we grab on the go, this tradition offers a different perspective: sometimes the experience is meant to be savored.

🌌 Coffee Spotlight: Celestial 🌌

Introducing Celestial, a rich and balanced blend that brings together coffees from Guatemala and Sumatra. This medium-dark roast combines notes of milk chocolate and dried fruit with a touch of smoke, creating a cup that’s smooth, full-bodied, and satisfyingly complex.

The Guatemalan coffee comes from ELLA – Women Producers of Guatemala, where three women owners grow coffee surrounded by abundant flora that helps preserve biodiversity and reduce the need for chemicals.

Paired with it are distinctive Sumatran beans processed using Indonesia’s traditional Giling Basah, or wet-hulled, method. Grown in volcanic soil at high elevations by small-scale farmers, these coffees bring earthy depth and character to the blend.

Together, the two origins create a coffee that balances chocolatey richness and fruit with a gently smoky finish.

📊 Did You Know? It Can Take About 915 Pounds of Coffee Cherries to Produce One 150-Pound Bag of Green Coffee? ☕🍒

Coffee starts with far more fruit than most people realize.

According to the Specialty Coffee Association, roughly 915 pounds of freshly harvested coffee cherries may be needed to produce one 150-pound bag of export-ready green coffee, though exact yields can vary by processing method and growing conditions.

That means a significant amount of weight is lost as the cherries are depulped, fermented, washed or dried, milled, sorted, and prepared for export.

Behind every bag of coffee is an enormous amount of agricultural work, careful processing, and attention to quality.

Coffee hasn't always been welcomed.

Throughout history, coffee was temporarily banned in places such as Mecca, the Ottoman Empire, and parts of Europe, where leaders worried that coffeehouses encouraged free thinking, debate, and the exchange of ideas.

Ironically, those same gathering places would later become some of the world's most beloved spaces for conversation, creativity, and community.
