When life gives you lemons, squeeze the s**t outta them and tell them you love’m 🍋 🤗 🥰

It’s with bittersweet tidings that we will be sending off our best bud Chef Chris Bart at the end of this month as he prepares for his next chapter as a new father! Words will forever fail to illustrate the joy and positive impact Chris has brought to Ward 8 and our neighborhood.
For years he’s filled our bellies, kept us laughing, and showed us the value of wit with a side of grit. We’re going to miss his grumblings when the Cubs are s**ttin the bed, the quips in a southern drawl, and those after hours dance moves that put Jagger to shame.

We’re throwing a Halloween Hoot-enanny 🦉 🩳 on his last day 10/31 to send him off on a rager of a night and a memory for a lifetime. Swing in and wish him well, love you amigo!

One of my favorite old adages when I comes to cooking,
“If it grows together, it goes together”

Howard St. has blessed us with some of the best neighbors we could’ve asked for. Through thick and thin, cups of sugar and shots of solidarity our family next door Peckish Pig have been by our literal side for 14 years and remind us that we are a part of something bigger than ourselves. And that is to be celebrated.

Wednesday’s, Hump Days, are my personal favorite day of the week on Howard St. Past, present, and future it’s a time when you can keep a good week’s energy pushing forward, or sit back and relax your shoulders with friends and neighbors over the best deals you’re going to find on a Wednesday in Evanston/Rogers Park.

Every week you can 1, 2 crawl Howard St with $20 Burger, B**r & Bourbon at Peckish Pig and slide over to Ward Eight for tons of $8 dollar Draft, W**e, Cocktail and Back Bar pours all Wednesday long. Easy on your wallet, even better for your soul.

Catchin’ Rays & Catchin’ Strays

There aren’t many cocktails as infamous and contentious as the Old Fashioned. An incredible Old Fashioned doesn’t need to be complex. In fact, it’s not supposed to be. Just three ingredients, Bourbon, Sugar, & Bitters.

Yet we face the same predicament as our ancestral imbibers of old. How can just three building blocks be put together in such vastly different ways spanning the spectrum from vile to the divine? The only truth, Intention.

With just a few pieces to put together your bartender has a choice, to be purposeful every step of the way or slap it together and move on. That’s the difference between just another drink in your glass or something steadily by your side throughout the evening’s conversation.

From the outside in, it’s feeling like cool weather and long rays of sunshine.
It’s that time of year when we can feel the most hustled and stressed with preparations for the year’s end. That pressure of getting ready or hunkering down, like having all of your needs within arms reach before it’s time to sit for your show’s next episode.
It’s comforting, even when you’re looking down, pulling the wagon, grinding, those long shadows and stretched beams of golden light on the ground remind you to look up every now and again, to soak in the moment, and that’s it’s always okay to be present.

Alright, someone’s gotta say it, we’re officially kicking off Autumn at Ward 8. There’s no better way to celebrate the season than with a Barrel Aged Jack Rose!

Rested in a wheated bourbon barrel for over 100 days this turn of the century cocktail usually calls for an Apple Brandy or “Applejack” as the base spirit. We twisted ours up by substituting French Calvados for a punchier apple flavor and a crisper palate to balance out the oak we got from the barrel.

Get it while it’s.. cool! 🍂 Limited batch until we sell out!

What a spectacular day! Huge thanks to everyone who came out to the Callan Plaza Block Party on Saturday afternoon! It was a wonderful community celebration that brought together neighbors, friends, business and organizations. Guests enjoyed treats from C&W Market and Ice Cream , Peckish Pig , & Ward Eight ; met friends from PALMHOUSE & Where Beauty Meets Culture | Black-Owned ; and took one last dive into summer fun on the water slide. Thank you to the City of Evanston , Enjoy Evanston & Rogers Park Business Alliance for their support! Subtle twist to the classic Piña Colada, we’re using a grilled pineapple juice reduction for that extra summer flare. Bar’s open @ 5pm!
