On October 13, 1983, Hecky Powell combined his two passions (helping people and making the world's best barbecue) and opened the doors to his restaurant. With just 100 bucks in the register, he started selling everything from rib tips to chicken, all paired with the best dang barbecue sauce you've ever had. More than 37 years later, Hecky's is still doing what we do best -- and then some! Our menu

has expanded and our kitchen is bigger than ever. But the best thing about our business growing? We've been able to help our community thrive along with us. We're proud to sponsor community initiatives, host charity events, and employ local young people at our place. It's just our way of saying "thanks" for letting us make life a little more delicious.

It is with great sorrow that I announce the passing of my dear sister-in-law, Patsy Powell, on Saturday, June 20th, in Atlanta, GA.

Patsy was a wonderful person, and of extraordinary help to me when Hecky passed in May 2020. Patsy stayed in Evanston to help with the restaurant for more than two years, ensuring a smooth transition in Hecky's absence. She had worked in the restaurant during her younger years, and thus knew the operation. I used to tease her that she had Hecky's running like a military kitchen, in light of her military experience.

I will miss her smiling face, upbeat personality, and no nonsense 'can do' spirit. My loss, heaven's gain...
