Most of my days as a neurodivergent individual going through perimenopause are a constant roller coaster of ups and downs and fluctuations. This means that I am often dysregulated, emotionally mentally physically, but I still have days where I have to keep working and being a business owner many of those days require me to have back-to-back meetings or interviews or classes and lots of other times where I can’t just hibernate at home behind the scenes. These are some things that I do to help me stay regulated and have a little self-care for myself when it can be otherwise difficult: I try to frontload by making sure I drink lots of water before I’m headed out of the house, I put electrolyte powder in my water for extra hydration, I make sure that I have a protein heavy breakfast like Greek yogurt or a shake that I make with greens in it. I make myself a soup every Sunday and I eat that every day for lunch and the soup is filled with vegetables and it makes enough that I can eat it for a week and then have enough that I can freeze for the next week as well. This makes it so I don’t even have to think about my lunch and I know that I’m getting something healthy. When I’m at the shop, I try to take my lunch break at the park and have a change of scenery and just be in nature. I try to stock healthy, frozen foods like bean burritos that I can just keep here in the freezer that I can grab when I have forgotten something. I also like to stock a little treat for a dopamine boost, for me that’s frozen peppermint patties. I try to schedule an hour in between meetings so that there’s some margin. I try to get as much done the day before because whenever I have a lot of extroverted time, it sets me back very far on my admin chores. I try to read a book later and do as little work as possible because it’s so draining to my system on days like these. I like to have a go bag full of the things that I always use so that I can have them without having to refill the bag every time: my favorite pens, notebook, a water bottle, a backup charger and all the cords that I need. How about you? What are your little tips and tricks that make things easier for you?
