A true NJ institution, Rutt’s Hut is known for their deep-fried hot dogs. The original roadside stand was opened in 1928. I’d say not much has changed since.

Their frying process causes the hot dog casings to crack and split, which has led to the nickname “Rippers”. The relish topping is just as famous as the hot dogs, made with a secret blend of mustard and spices.

I was instructed to combine the house made chili and relish (which I promptly did after taking these photos). At its best, it all seems vaguely radioactive - but in a good way.

Most people eat standing up at the plain white linoleum counters with a stack of paper napkins nearby. If you see 10-20 bikers outside you’ll know you found it.

Eat here. Also order the rice pudding. Trust me. Rutt’s freaking Hutt baby.

If you know, you know, and if you don’t, let me put you on.

Tucked outside Lee’s Liquor in Jersey City Heights, the Taquitos Mexicanos truck has been an unassuming gem slinging al pastor and birria tacos that hit every single time. You can still catch them there most days after 5 pm, posted up and ready to feed the neighborhood.

But now, there’s a new chapter: Don Goyo Tacos Mexicanos is officially open, their new location in addition to the food truck!

In a time when immigration is at the center of political debates, let this be your flavorful reminder: this is what makes America great.

The food, the culture, the grind, the generations of tradition behind every bite, and the small businesses that grow from a food truck into a restaurant.

So pull up, bring cash, order heavy, support the dream, and thank me after your fourth taco.

Out East Pt. 2: are the Briermere Farms $45 fresh fruit & cream pies worth it?

My first question: is this even a pie? A tart? Does it matter?

You have a mountain of fresh strawberries grown on the farm, piled over fresh cream and a flaky, less traditional pie crust. Visually, it’s striking. There is a genuine wow factor when this thing hits the table.

And yes, $45 for strawberries, whipped cream, and crust sounds mildly insane. But when you consider the sheer volume of fresh strawberries involved, the math starts to check out.

Could you possibly make this at home? Technically. Will you? Probably not.

And that’s kind of the point. It’s fun, beautiful, fresh, and tastes exactly like what it is. Not a life-changing dessert, but still a very good time.

Weekend out East in Orient, where the group had one pressing question: is Duryea’s Lobster Cobb Salad actually worth $97?

The answer (annoyingly) is yes.

I was prepared to be unimpressed. Prepared to call it overpriced. Prepared to tell everyone they were paying for the view and the Instagramable moment.

Unfortunately, it was delicious. Crisp lettuce, buttery lobster, generous pieces, actually well dressed. It proceeded to outshine the main dishes.

Sometimes the viral thing is viral because it’s good. Hate when that happens.

Rain or shine, we’re eating 🌧️🍜

We somehow managed to visit on one of the rainiest days, but the food excitement stayed strong.

Japan Fes is one of my favorite food events because you can try so many foods without hopping all over the city.

The festival takes place on multiple weekends throughout NYC all the way into the fall, so if you miss one (or it rains), you’ve got plenty more chances.
