People always ask how Ferrera came to be, and the answer has always been pretty simple: it started with a love of food.
Years ago, I asked my mom what her dream was. She didn’t talk about money or success. She talked about food. About family. About the memories made around a table and the way food has always brought people together. She talked about having a restaurant of her own one day. Something our family could build together, be proud of, and call ours.
If you know my mom, you know that dream became Ferrera.
Lora spent most of her life in restaurants, but her greatest teacher was her grandma, Grandma Carey, who passed down family recipes and the love behind them from one generation to the next.
After years of pouring her heart into other people’s restaurants, including her time as Food & Beverage Manager at the Norfolk Golf & Country Club, she finally took the leap.
On February 14, 2012, Ferrera… Food with Attitude was born.
For 12 years, our little downtown restaurant became home. We watched families grow, celebrated milestones, made lifelong friendships, and shared our love through food.
And now, life has brought us full circle.
Today, Ferrera calls Norfolk Golf Club 1895 home. The very place where my mom helped build a reputation for incredible food years before having a restaurant of her own.
Dreams don’t always happen overnight. Sometimes they take years of hard work, sacrifice, and believing in yourself.
