As much as these public holidays challenge us in business, they also give us opportunities to meet amazing people, reconnect with “old” friends and guests and get to grips with re-organizing, refreshing and experimenting.
Yesterday was no exception: we met not one, but 2 families of guests who had been customers of ours long ago, moved to the Cape for some years and have now returned to Gauteng and Midstream/Centurion. It is so wonderful getting to hear their stories and welcome them “ back home”. The van Schalwyks and the Van den Berg families rediscovered The Godfather experience and we loved chatting to them.
Then our dear friends Francesco DeLorenzo and Ronald & Michela Maddox brought their little munchkin Matteo for lunch. He is an absolute whirlwind of fun and laughter- his mom got a pic of him getting stuck in to The Godfather Ribs. That’s a sure sign he will become a regular. ( His mom was a manager at the old, and the new Godfather before returning to the corporate world) .
Then had the chefs making a new batch of our AMAZING Moroccan paste- just look at this paste of chillies that you know will give you a punch of flavour ( and clear your sinuses better than any meds) .
This paste is so good on a great steak, and we even have a guest who requests it on his ribs!
Probably a bit addictive! It certainly looks that way.
Also, have a look at a combo requested by a guest of calamari, kingklip and a side salad with EXTRA avo. I can’t lie, that looks amazing. ( even to someone allergic to fish🤣)
Now the long weekend is over, everyone back to work and school, and hopefully businesses can return to whatever we call normal.

Some desserts never lose their charm. Our classic malva pudding is served warm, wonderfully sticky, and finished with smooth custard for the ultimate comforting treat.
The perfect sweet ending to a great meal at The Godfather, especially on a chilly day.

The bonds that are created when working at The Godfather is something we cherish so much. Often I read messages between old team members who have long moved on from their waitering days, and am so warmed by the love and care. There is something so special about these friendships- it’s magical.
Today I read this post by Traci Purwin ( who was a waiter then a manager at The Godfather many years ago) to her friend Inge Burger ( who was also a waiter then manager as her successor) .
You can see the calibre of humans we are proud to have built a legacy with.
The artwork produced by Traci is spectacular. I will add it. The message is emotional and beautiful and real.
Thank you special ladies for having come into our world and making it so much better.

The last photo was probably 2000, I think, when Traci and Inge were both at The Godfather, together with Brad in his youth- - crazy, I know , and sadly my memory fails me- I have no idea who the forth person is. 🙈. Someone please help jog the memory?

Youth day is filled with different emotions: the reason this is a holiday has so many nuances. However, Our youth are our future and a reason for most of us to have hope, compassion and a sense of responsibility.
It’s also a day to count our blessings!
We will most definitely be open to celebrate how fortunate we are while remembering our own youth! Tuesday being a holiday is surely a blessing!
Being able to sit outside on a sunny winter’s Highveld day is not to be sneezed at- enjoy platters with friends, Mimosas or a glass of wine with a self created platter! Bring the kids for a milkshake or gelato! Make everyone happy!

So when it’s a long weekend ( or a self made long weekend for some 😂) we use the opportunity to upskill. Yesterday was a 3 hour session with our waiters and runners of product knowledge: tasting the mustard pepper coarse salt crusting on steak bites, tasting capers and deep fried capers and understanding why exactly we use the latter on our beautiful carpaccio, tasting the amazing halva that we use in our absolutely wicked Halva Ice Cream, and looking at many many photos of our plated food so we can compare platings, garnishes that have changed and evolved over the years.
Then to top it all a lovely educational talk by Our wonderful Marissa Roos from DGB, who so kindly took a hiatus in her day’s program to visit with her kids to give our team more knowledge of the Boschendal Nicolas which we are showcasing for the next month. ( and while we were busy with training, Steve & Emiel were treating Marissa’s kids to a delicious gelato to reward them for allowing us to steal their mom for a bit)
Product knowledge is a cornerstone of the quality of food and wines we offer, and we grow so much from these experiences.
