❤️ Local Love: Weston Bend Candle Company
We’ve been saving this Local Love feature for Applefest weekend — our busiest weekend of the year — on purpose.
Because if there is one shop that deserves a little extra attention, it’s Weston Bend Candle Company.

For the past 12 years, Weston Bend has been part of what makes Main Street feel like Main Street. The second you walk through the door, you almost have to stop for a minute just to take in all the amazing smells around you. Their shelves are packed with candles and wax melts in so many different scents that choosing just one can be nearly impossible.

And they are completely ready for Applefest. They have four different apple-inspired candle scents ready to go, along with plenty of fall favorites. And if all those amazing smells make you hungry, they also have two actual cheesecakes available — pumpkin cheesecake and apple caramel cheesecake. Yes, actual cheesecake!

One of my favorite parts of the shop right now is their Harry Potter-inspired collection. From house-themed scents and colorful wax melts to all the little magical touches around the display, it’s such a fun section to stop and look through. Whether you’re a Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff—or just someone who wants their house to smell magical—you’re probably going to find something you need.

But Weston Bend is about so much more than candles.
Angie makes absolutely gorgeous handmade chocolates that are truly little works of art. The amount of time and detail she puts into them is incredible, and somehow they taste just as good as they look.

Then, on the complete opposite end of the elegance spectrum, you’ll find their collection of hilariously inappropriate socks. If you need a gift for the person who already has everything—or the friend with a slightly questionable sense of humor—this is your section.

Angie and Sarah run the shop together, and in true Weston fashion, you may also be greeted by Gandalf, the shop cat, who is more than happy to accept all the pets and attention you’re willing to give him.

Recently, the Weston Bend family announced that they will be closing the shop at the end of 2026. We absolutely hate to see them go. After 12 years of being part of our community, they’ve created something that goes far beyond candles and gifts.

But we don’t want this post to be about saying goodbye just yet.
They’re still here. We still have time to shop, visit, smell way too many candles, pick a Hogwarts house, admire Angie’s chocolates, laugh at inappropriate socks, eat cheesecake, and give Gandalf a scratch behind the ears.

That’s exactly why we waited until Applefest to feature them. With so many people coming through Weston this weekend, we want as many of you as possible to walk through their door and see for yourself why this little shop has been so loved for the last 12 years.

📍 Weston Bend Candle Company
424 Main Street, Weston

And as always, Saint George Hotel guests who shop local and show us their receipt can receive a free late checkout, based on availability.

Weston Bend has given Weston 12 wonderful years.
This weekend, let’s pack that shop and show Angie, Sarah, Gandalf, and the whole Weston Bend family just how much Weston loves them. ❤️

💚 THIS WEEK’S LOCAL LOVE: PAWPAW FEST! 💚

We’re doing Local Love a little differently this week.

Instead of highlighting one Weston business, we’re giving the spotlight to the first Missouri PawPaw Festival!

If you’ve never tried a pawpaw, this is your chance. Missouri’s native fruit has a sweet, tropical flavor often compared to banana and mango — and this weekend Weston is celebrating it in a BIG way.

In fact, Saturday, September 26 has officially been proclaimed PawPaw Day in Weston.

The fun starts Friday night with a PawPaw Welcome Dinner at O’Malley’s, followed by an outdoor showing of O Brother, Where Art Thou?

Then Saturday brings the full festival with pawpaw samples, vendors, food, drinks, live music and plenty of Pawpaw Pete.

🎶 Festival activities run from 11 AM–8 PM, with even more live music continuing inside O’Malley’s afterward.

And yes — PawPaw Fest is rain or shine!

💚 OUR LOCAL LOVE PERK:
If you’re staying with us, bring us a receipt from PawPaw Fest and receive a FREE LATE CHECKOUT!

Come try something new, enjoy live music, explore Weston, and grab a pawpaw drink.

And if anyone asks why you spent your Saturday celebrating a strange green Missouri fruit…

The mayor declared it PawPaw Day. We don’t make the rules. 😂🌿

💕 THIS WEEK’S LOCAL LOVE: BLUE JAY NUTRITION 💕

This week’s Local Love is Blue Jay Nutrition, located at 716 Thomas Street, just about a block from The Saint George Hotel.

Owner Alisha Neal has owned Blue Jay since January 2025, but I only recently became a regular — and honestly, it happened completely by accident.

The first time I went in was on a Tuesday. The coffee shop was closed, I didn’t have a dollar bill for the soda machine, and I needed something to drink. So I walked over to Blue Jay.
After that, I started going on Tuesdays.

Then Tuesdays slowly turned into stopping in later in the day after I had already had my coffee.

Then I caught myself actually wanting my Blue Jay drink more than my coffee.

If you know me, you know that is a very big statement. 😂
This week I found myself driving downtown on my day off just to get one, which is something I really do not do. That was the moment I decided Blue Jay absolutely had to be this week’s Local Love.

The funny part is, up until recently, I honestly had no clue what I was even drinking. I just knew it tasted really good and left me feeling good afterward.

Turns out, my go-to is a Mega Tea.
They have around 160–200 mg of clean caffeine, along with B and C vitamins, collagen — God knows my hair could use it — and aloe for gut health. They taste incredibly sweet, but they have no sugar, and the clean caffeine means you don’t get that awful crash afterward.

And we cannot talk about Blue Jay without talking about Blue. 💙
Blue is the shop dog and will most likely be there ready to greet you when you walk in. He is genuinely one of the most lovable dogs I have ever met and is more than happy to accept every pet you are willing to give him.

With a name like Blue Jay Nutrition and a mascot named Blue, I’m not sure you could get much more local than that.

This weekend is also a really fun time to stop in because today and tomorrow are Customer Appreciation Days. They have raffles, prizes, discounts, a special menu, and on Saturday they’re doing Fill a Tray Day, where you can grab four drinks for a special price.

We’re getting our Weston Lodging guests in on it too. Ten randomly selected guests this weekend will find a half-off first drink coupon tucked inside their keycard packet, so make sure you actually look inside yours!

And, just like with our other Local Love features, if you’re staying with Weston Lodging and stop by Blue Jay during your stay, bring us your receipt and we’ll give you a FREE late checkout as our little thank-you for supporting another Weston business.

Blue Jay Nutrition is open Friday from 7 AM–4 PM, Saturday from 9 AM–2 PM, closed Sunday and Monday, and Tuesday through Thursday from 7 AM–4 PM.

If you’ve never been in, go give them a try — and make sure you give some pets to Blue from all of us at The Saint George Hotel 💙
