Back to school means they don’t always just come home with their backpack…🫠

They also a come home with their new friend’s cooties.
Then they don’t feel good, and then you don’t feel good and so it goes…
The back to school domino effect is real!
We can support their immune systems with good sleep, nourishing foods, fresh air, handwashing.
Sometimes we need something more. Echinacea is potent! Take at first signs of a scratchy throat. This one is a lifesaver. Good to keep on hand because you want to take as early as possible for best results.
Before we added this to our website we have shared it with friends and family for a few years! It is by far the most repeatedly requested tincture we make.

Good luck as you navigate the joys…and germs of back to school🙌🏻

Welcome, to everyone who has found their way here recently. 🤍
I’m so grateful you’re here.

It’s always been our vision that this little apothecary is more than tinctures and teas.

It’s a place for honoring the rites of passages we experience. Birth, postpartum, death, and grief.
I also like to inject some whimsy and nature too✨

Today I’m sharing a small excerpt from a piece I wrote about the afternoon my love’s body was carried from our home, and what anxiety felt like in the days that followed.

“How did my body contain this magnitude of pain and still remember to breathe? I wondered how his heart went still but mine defied logic by continuing to devote itself to a rhythm…”

If you’d like to read the full piece, see the education section on our site. If you want to subscribe while you’re there, you’ll receive my first newsletter that’s going out next week🤞🏻I’m hoping the newsletters will feel like gathering in circle together, even from across the miles🤍

Thank you for being with me. I truly hope you find something that nourishes you, whatever season you’re in✨

What is ritual?
For me, ritual used to feel mystical and abstract. It conjured up hippies frolicking in the forest under a full moon with a bonfire and sage burning. I mean, that actually does sound fun, but not very practical on a Monday afternoon.

Ritual is not magic. It’s predictable, repeatable actions that trigger the nervous system to change from an anxious state to a grounded one.

Research has found that ritual reduces anxiety! During ritual your brain redirects anxious thoughts and activates the parasympathetic nervous system.

It doesn’t have to be elaborate or take a long time. Try to make a cup of tea like a tiger isn’t chasing you. Slow. Take a few deep breaths and lift a candle as the water heats up. Smell the fragrances of the hot tea for 20 seconds before drinking it. Let your body know it’s safe to slow down.

I use ritual for grief anxiety. I light a candle on Brock’s alter each morning. I sing him a song while I do it. The same three verses repeated everytime. I light a stick of incense and smudge his pictures while I sing. It takes less than a minute and truly has helped me start the day a bit more in my body.

“Listen, listen, listen to my heart song
I will never forget you
I will never forsake you”

As a small batch apothecary we have lots of teas, aromatherapy, oils and tinctures you could use to create ritual in your day. If you need help figuring one out. Lemme know, I’ll try to help❤️

Our story… we are Brock and Christina 🤍

Nourish the Mama, a postpartum meal service, was born from our shared passion and desire to serve women and our community.

As a homebirth midwife, I spent years walking alongside mothers through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Brock, drawn to nourishment and healing, began preparing meals inspired by postpartum traditions from around the world.

Brock was dynamic, deeply spiritual, and endlessly curious. His path took him across the world, including time in the Amazonian jungles studying shamanism, nutrition, energetic healing, and global traditions. He infused each creation with love and prayer. His love could be felt not only in the nourishing food, but in the intention behind it.

Over time, this offering grew to include the herbal tinctures, teas, and remedies I had been crafting and sharing with clients for years. Our collective knowledge and passion for holistic living became the foundation of our apothecary.

I retired from homebirth midwifery and we moved from Southern California to Washington. Shortly after our big move, at 48 years old, Brock passed away. Leaving us all grief stricken.

Daybreak Apothecary is named in honor of the forest, where Brock and I spent many sweet mornings exploring and foraging in our new home in the bountiful, breathtaking Pacific Northwest.

I now pour my energy and heart into this apothecary. Into the plants, the preparations, and the women and families they are meant to support. I hope to meet you where you are and offer something that supports you through all the sacred moments, from birth to death.

Thank you for being here.
Much Love,
Christina 🤍
