Three years ago today I opened a biscuit shop with 5 two top tables in a run down strip mall/former Pizza Hut with pretty much no money, a ton of DIY work, and a dream.
I remember telling my crew that I had no idea how busy we’d be or how many hours I’d have for them. I remember telling myself there was no turning back now, I had to make this work one way or another because now I had a staff that relied on me to make sure they were paid.. I remember wondering what the hell I was doing.. surprise, I never wanted to have a sit down restaurant but here we are haha

I am so incredibly lucky that this has worked out. It hasn’t always been fun and it’s pretty much never been easy, but I wouldn’t change anything we’ve done. I’ve made a lot of friends along the way (and my big mouth with big opinions has made sure I’ve made just as many haters 😂).

I wish I had something profound to say, but really all I want to say is thank you all who have made this place what it is today. Even you jerks who convinced me to expand the size. I hope you’re happy because I’m never doing that again.

Welp.. this one’s gonna hurt 😭 We’ve known for the last 6 months this date was coming (yeah, the dude gave SIX MONTHS notice) and it’s finally time that we share that our beloved Sven Shibahara is moving on. Our first ever hire for the brick and mortar over 3 years ago.. I remember this man sat down at the table and told me he was up early watching a Japanese pro wrestling event and I stopped him, paused the interview so that Dante Hernandez could join me. When Sven left, Dante and I went back to the kitchen to determine how long we had to wait for it to be not too soon to send him a job offer.

Sven has done every job at Side Piece and he’s also been in pretty much a thousand videos. If you’ve eaten anything from our kitchen, there is a HIGH likelihood Sven had something to do with it.

He’s quite simply one of the greatest humans I’ve met in my lifetime, and through him we all also gained meeting another great human, his wife Emily (hey girl 💕). It’s incredibly rare you find someone this cool in this industry.

Thank you Sven for everything you’ve done for us. We are so lucky to call you our friend and so thankful for all the time we got to work with you. We can’t wait for you to get conned into doing a guest shift here and there. This place wouldn’t have been possible without you.

Sven’s last day is next week, if you see him, make sure you wish him luck in his new field and maybe thank him for this biscuits 💕

The plague has finally come to claim us. No one should ever have to work when they’re sick, plus I don’t want us all spreading it further. We are gonna be open for take out only today and sadly we are going to have to close tomorrow.
Please come buy cheesecake today so it doesn’t go to waste. Being closed a whole day is necessary but incredibly expensive haha

The best season of the year is upon us and we are ready to ring in October with some certified heaters
In September, yall helped us raise $350 for Imagination Library & $100 for Real Art Tacoma with our last Cake for a Cause. A new month means a new charity, and this months cake is Tacoma Community House 💕
