Nagadi Coffee

Nagadi Coffee Travel the world through the flavors of coffee What in the world is Nagadi? Nagadi means traveler in Ge’ez, an ancient Ethiopian language. But wait!

We are Silver Spring (MD) based specialty coffee roasters, and we are passionate about what we do. We call ourselves travelers because we believe that one can travel the world through the flavors and aromas of coffee. There are no two beans alike and each plantation will yield beans with unique characteristics reflecting the varietal, the terroir, the processing method and, finally the roaster’s s

kill on developing the beans’ inherent flavors. This uniqueness is what allows one to “taste a bit of another land” into a simple cup of coffee. Sourcing
We begin our coffee journey by working closely with our partners (farmers, cooperatives and exporters), countries of origin. This allows us to learn about the coffee as well as the people who cultivate and process it, and enables us to select only the best green beans, our most important ingredient. Only great beans will create a great beverage. Roasting
Each green bean has unique characteristics, and we embrace that by bringing out their unique flavors and aromas. We test-roast mutiple samples of each new batch of green beans to establish the conditions that best reveal their unique palate of flavors and aromas. Each batch is then carefully roasted in our Diedrich roaster and packaged in opaque, biodegradable bags. Our Mission and Values
We strive to source and roast the best coffee beans out there, so that you can have a great experience, when you sip the drink in your cup. Before sourcing our coffee, we learn about its origins. By building relationships with farmers who are committed to producing quality coffee, we know we can trace our coffees’ origin from the moment they are planted, until they are harvested, processed and roasted. This makes us confident that we are not simply roasting coffee, but producing a great quality product, that empowers small farmers, and improves their families’ lives. Why are we committed to those values? It is part of who we are and what we have learned from very early in life. Maybe we should tell you more about ourselves, so that you can understand our philosophy. Nagadi Coffee was founded by Felix Tansil and Patricia Carvalho: two architects who decided to venture in the coffee world. Architecture is not really all they knew about, until they founded Nagadi. Felix came a long way from Indonesia, where he grew up seeing three generations of his family sourcing and roasting local coffees that were then sold in their shop, which is still active. From his family business, he learned that producing great roasted coffee depends on dedication, persistence and most of all, on the beans quality. He also learned about the importance of building a strong relationship with the supplier, to guarantee consistent quality that can be then passed on to his customers. Patricia grew up in Minas Gerais, the largest coffee-growing state in Brazil and one of the major specialty coffee sources in the country. Seeing her family and friends planting and harvesting different coffee varieties made her passionate about the production and processing methods and how they could affect the quality of the final beverage. It has also made her understand that the coffee business should be a fair process to all parts involved, benefiting not only the exporter or final seller, but also the farmers and all their workers. It was also in Minas Gerais State that she learned basic coffee roasting concepts, while watching both her grandmothers using old-fashioned ball roasters, to produce the beverage that her family would later drink. Together, we share our passion for great coffee with you and we commit ourselves to only providing a high-quality, great tasting product that started and ended its journey the right way. We hope you enjoy this great beverage as much as we do! Patricia & Felix.

We make our cold brew by means of French Press. When we have enough beans left from our pour over station, we use about 100g to 110g in a 1.5 liter French Press pot and steep it for 16 to 24 hours. Darker roast or fuller bodied coffees are the best for cold brews since they leave a better taste.
