Directions Website

Ugly Duck is a multi-roaster coffee shop serving specialty coffee in Rochester, NY. In addition to t We aim to serve espresso in an approachable way.

Ugly Duck Coffee is a pop-up espresso bar traveling around the City of Rochester, NY. We partner with local businesses and temporarily set-up within their walls, to offer patrons espresso based beverages. Each drink is crafted with the intention of highlighting the characteristics of the coffee, while maintaining the integrity of the roasters we partner with. Ugly Duck is always on the move with our custom-built modular bar and looking for new collaborations and locations to visit. In addition to pop-ups, we cater special events. Head over to our website to see what that's about. Someday we may have a permanent home -- but until then, follow us on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook to keep up with our whereabouts.

Happy Halloween Y’all!

It’s the shadowy time of year at open and close. Also got some cable knit ugly beanies to keep your head warmer.

We put in the last order of Driftaway Coffee today. It’s been a pleasure to share them with you. We still have some on the shelf and more coming this week. So make sure to pick a bag up before they are gone.

A conversation shared with me today.

“Hey is there an event going on at Ugly Duck today? The line is out the door.”

Friend responding. “It’s Saturday morning.”

Truly appreciate everyone who chooses to support us even with a little bit of a wait.

Coffee is beautiful and is so much more than a beverage.

Changing out burrs on one of our espresso grinders. If you don’t know what those are they are two cylinder discs that grind the coffee. It’s important for grind consistency and flavor when serving coffee. We clean them out nightly, but that’s doesn’t get everything. The following is a deeper look of what gets trapped inside overtime.

1. New fresh and clean burrs.
2. Built up coffee residue and ground coffee over time on the bottom of a burr plate.
3. The outside of an old burr and the coffee and residue that sticks to it overtime.

So many variables go into making good coffee and this is one of them you don’t hear about often.

We’ve noticed the shift from iced to hot drinks. Our steam wands have been very busy today!

For the size of our city I truly believe our coffee scene and community is one of the best in the country. Much Love to you all for taking the time to recognize everyone listed as well as supporting those that are not. It feels good to be recognized in this way. We also got some new tumblers in (slide 3). Let’s celebrate at the Throwdown on (slide 4) sign up and win prizes!
