Sorry, guys. Closed as of today. My landlord asked me to leave outside of our contract that we renewed in July.

To my yoga clients…. I’m sorry. We’re working on it. We can find a park or elsewhere.
To my tea clients…. See you at the market. We deliver!
To the NAMI and Salvation Army groups….. I’m not leaving you high and dry. We’re going to meet at my home until then. I make great tea and muffins!

Closed while the Chicago lawyers sort this out. No one in Quincy would help until the deadline died. That tracks. Not to worry - we will build back better.

RYS 500 incoming šŸš€ Alex and I are making a curriculum for those who want to learn yoga from teachers with scientific expertise. We have begun registering our school - Rooted in Science.

Alex is a Rheumatologist trained in inflammation of soft tissue, joints, etc. at the Cleveland Clinic & I am a behavioral neuroscientist and trained in neuropsychological testing and treatment. I taught university for 10 years in NYC at CUNY and then in Cleveland, where we met and married.

We are two of your teachers who are from global locations with diverse training interests. And we are fully online and affordable! At your own pace, recorded work. Live assistance and Q&A.

Together, we did two trainings and sat through countless hours of learning incorrect bone numbers, wrong muscles and biological cellular processes. We didn’t learn Sanskrit or philosophy and we missed the culture and humanity side of being yogi. We have traveled the US and I have traveled the world learning yoga since age 10. The teaching isn’t consistent and accurate. It is never trauma-sensitive. It isn’t inclusive.

Does this matter when your teacher is - in your mind - just a fitness instructor? Yes. When they teach great nutrition? Yes. When they tell you to listen to your body? Yes. When they give great hugs and you’ve known each other since kindergarten? Yes!

How the body is connected and moves matters. We need to take time to learn and see these structures from people who know what happens when they go wrong. Students can have profound experiences in yoga training learning their abilities. They must learn to give those experiences to others safely.

We will teach yoga and training in multiple languages and modalities. You will leave knowing the basics of over 8 styles of yoga and four full sequences from three regions in India. The Sanskrit language and unmasking the mystery behind the yoga lineage. Why was one sequence shaved into three others and where did they come from? Why do people do one and not all? Aren’t we one? Isn’t all yoga stilling the waves of the mind through safe and effective practices?

Most importantly - we will be a place where people who need to learn how to modify and work within the accessibility framework can learn. You will learn to help chair-bound, bed-bound yogis and behaviorally understand how to help them. We are also the other extreme - we do circus contortion and hot yoga and triathlon CrossFit fitness competitions. Those arm balances and hip openers your teacher guides but can’t attempt? If you can’t visualize it - you can’t teach it. For the yogi and teacher who thinks they went as far as they can - this is for you.

We are something I’ve never seen in a training before. A place to learn the hard stuff that others simply haven’t been able to communicate. If they don’t know, they can’t teach you. Watch their price tags and fancy slogans. You can google most things they’re teaching you and see it’s bunk. They want your money and you to stay as a student physically there. Money twice. Training can be a racket. Don’t let it. Knowledge is accessible.

We will be online. Affordable. And there is never going to be a reason to take a local training in your city or state and be hosed for thousands when you already can’t feed your family in today’s climate. Yoga knowledge isn’t a privilege we should have to pay extreme cash and travel/ take time off of our lives and families for.

Accessibility is always the goal at Rooted. Introducing ā€œRooted in Scienceā€

Yoga should heal your body, not hurt it.
That is why I bring 26 years of personal practice and a blend of science and movement to every class:

• The Science: I am a trained neuropsychologist specializing in trauma-sensitive and adaptive yoga. I understand how your brain, nervous system, and muscles interact. This affects fitness, balance, breath and flexibility. This is especially important in a hot room when blood flow and pressures are impacted.

The Experience: I have been teaching yoga for 9 years and gymnastics for 12 years, with deep roots in circus and contortion arts. I’ve practiced with world-class hand balancers and taught yogis who are wheelchair and walker bound. A good teacher can handle a whole room of levels at once.

• The Lineage: I trained in hot yoga for 6 years under world-class IYSF USA teachers. Prior to this I was an Ashtanga focused yogi who loves cyoga and gymnastics. Because of my wide training styles I can bring options and speak at a different level of instruction that others cannot. I know the Sanskrit.

What makes our new Hot Room different?
We are a small, boutique space. You will never be packed into a crowded, unmonitored room. Instead, you get semi-private, 1-on-1 attention. We can hold 16-18 but we cap at 8 for a reason. This isn’t about making money off of 25 people crammed like sardines - it is about finding personal peace.

Whether you are recovering from an injury, managing a chronic condition, or looking for an elite workout that respects your joints, your mat is waiting. Don’t go to a place where instructors don’t know or understand anatomy and yoga postures. Reconsider taking classes where the instructor cannot articulate body and breath motion. You do not need to just watch your instructor - they need to be able to speak in a manner that you can follow them your way.

Here at Rooted - I am one of the best in the Midwest. The world- but this rhymed. Whatever level you are at - we can work with you without hurting you.

I used Ai for the pic. The robot on Google decided orange was a great color. It refused to add me or convert to green. Sacral safety entered the chat.

Next chance to yoga together is Tues and Wed at 9am. We start standing, move to kneeling, seated, on belly then on backs. We end reclined in savasana.

Every posture is an option with many options within it. It’s all one. This class helps strengthen balance and legs, open hips, lengthen the spine and increase body awareness.

It’s great for people with hand and wrist issues - we spend no time on them! No downdog. No chaturanga.

It’s great for people with dizziness in class upon standing - we don’t go upside down or fold forward after the first 15 mins. It’s not hot Ashtanga. I question the physiological safety of this choice when I take other classes šŸ‘Ž

It’s great for people who don’t want to or can’t get on and off the floor over and over again. We don’t do that in this class šŸ™‚ā€ā†”ļø

Every class here at Rooted can be taken in a chair or adapted to every body. As they say where I practice - Anyone with a spine can take yoga!!! This series is, in my opinion, the most accessible of the scripted sequences.

Last nights class was awesome! Thank you to everyone who came. The 26&2 helped heal my knees after surgeries. It helped heal my heart when our sons were gone. I hope you begin to fall in love with it, too. 85F is hot - it isn’t ā€œthat hotā€ ….
