As we welcome you back for the new year we want to take time and say “Thank You.” As a member of the National Restaurant and Hospitality Alliance our restaurant was nominated for Central Ohio Restaurant of the year, which was then voted on by the public. On behalf of Kim, Steve and all our staff we are humbled in sharing that because of your votes we were awarded 2025 Central Ohio Restaurant of the Year. This award is a testament to our great staff that continue to elevate our business everyday.

So here is a good update after a stressful weekend we will be open back up for normal business hours on Tuesday Dec 16, from 7am-2pm. With that our biggest concern was our employees that lost out on a busy weekend. The silver lining the weather Saturday afternoon/night was not good.

Anyway here is what we are going to do for our employees and how our customers can help. Just dine with us Tuesday from 7am - 2pm and Wed from 7am - 8pm and we are going to donate 10% of our sales to our employees to help make up a portion of what they lost.

If you can’t make it those days come see us for our last full weekend of the year this weekend.

Thank you again for your support.

Grateful this situation is now behind us. Our current state summed up in a picture 3 days later all for a water leak.

Our latest update Dec 13 5:45pm
Columbia Gas can not find the lines. What does that mean. Since they could not find the lines they have to bring in their special truck to expose the water line to be repaired. They will be at the restaurant at 9 am to start that work. Once that work is done our next obstacle becomes getting someone out on a Sunday to turn the water on. We will be bring our staff in at 11am with a hope to open if we are unable to open we will still be paying our staff for the days work. We appreciate everyone’s patience with us as we continue to work hard to get open. Please check before coming to the restaurant. We will post an update here and have our hours updated on google and yelp which will currently shows us as closed.

Latest update Saturday Dec 13 2:00pm
We still do not have water, and they have still not been able to dig to repair as Columbia Gas has been on site for a while now and the struggle seems to be knowing where the main line is and the leak is close to where the service line runs. My hope is that it will still get fixed today and that we will be able to open tomorrow. We have however made the decision with the snow starting to fly and getting bad out we will not be opening today. If anything changes, we will update with those changes.

Update Saturday morning Dec 13 10:30am
The location service was on site at 9 am this morning but they are unable to find the main gas line so know we have to wait for Columbia Gas to come out which we were told an hour so every time we think we are getting close we get set back.

Friday at 3pm Dec 12 2025 we will be closed until at least until Sun afternoon. We have a water line that is damaged and the city has shut off the water until it is repaired. We have the people in place to work on the repairs but require the lines marked before digging and while we had an estimated time of noon on Friday as of 5pm today they have still not shown up. Once repairs are made, we will get someone from the water department to turn the water back on so we can open with our hope being that we are not closed all weekend! Thank you for your continued support and we are sorry for any inconvenience.

A little history

Nutcracker Sweets was founded by Steve and Nancy Butcher in 1995 in downtown Pataskala, and after 2 years they moved from downtown to our current location at 63 E Broad St Pataskala, Oh. Disaster struck on Jan 1, 2005 with an early morning fire that completely destroyed the building and with the help of the community we were completely rebuilt in 11 months into the 50’s diner we have today. We have over 230 Nutcrackers on display in the restaurant with many marked with the name of the family donating it after the fire. One Nutcracker managed to survive the fire and currently sits on top of the glass bottle coke refrigerator (Winnie the Pooh).

We have been blessed to have many loyal local customers as well as tremendous support from those who drive to our community from out of town so they can enjoy our diner atmosphere, friendly staff and menu.

We offer a diverse menu and offer many options that we prepare in house from our hand cubed, hand breaded country fried steak, meatloaf, all day breakfast, hand spun milk shakes and draft root beer floats. We are probably best known though for our made in house pies and Nancy’s award winning desserts of the snicker cookie pie (General Mills 2016) or Double Decker Banana Cake ( General Mills 2019) which are available everyday.

Looking back over the last 25 years as a mom-and-pop operation we cherish the relationships we have with our employees and customers alike. We are proud supporters of our local community and known for Free Veterans meals that we offer twice per year around Memorial Day and Veterans Day (Exact day may vary slightly).
