A huge thank you to our amazing crew at Olga Rising. 🤍

Both our front-of-house and back-of-house teams have done an incredible job this summer, and I could not be prouder of them.

Summer has been whistling by, and somehow we’re already just a few weeks away from Labor Day. This year, Olga Rising made the big leap to being open seven days a week. It was a huge push, especially for our kitchen crew and bakers. At the same time, we’ve seen a pretty incredible surge in the demand for our biscuit sandwiches, which has added another layer to an already busy summer.

This summer we definitely “risked it for the biscuit”.

Our crew has definitely felt the extra weight of it all, but I continue to be impressed by their ability to show up, work together, and keep things moving. They have made an incredibly demanding season look far more seamless than it actually is behind the scenes.

I’ve learned some valuable lessons along the way, too. Growth is exciting, but it also comes with challenges, and sometimes growing has a price. I’m continuing to learn what works, what doesn’t, and when it’s time to make adjustments so we can take good care of both our customers and the people who make Olga Rising what it is.

As we head toward September, we’ll begin adjusting our days and settling into our fall schedule. For now, I just want to say how grateful I am for this crew and everything they’ve poured into Olga Rising this summer.

Thank you for carrying us through one very busy biscuit-filled summer. 🥐☕️🤍

Olga Rising is looking for an early morning biscuit baker to join our little island bakery crew.

This is not a “stand around and look busy” kind of job. This is flour on your pants, ovens roaring before sunrise, music playing in the kitchen, hundreds-of-biscuits-before-most-people-are-awake kind of job.

The ideal person:

• Likes early mornings (or has made peace with them)
• Can move with a little speed and rhythm once the day gets rolling
• Appreciates organized chaos
• Works well independently
• Has a good sense of humor
• Cares about quality and the little details
• Doesn’t mind smelling like butter for most of the day

Experience is great, but honestly, attitude and work ethic matter just as much here. We can teach the rest.

Olga Rising has always been more than just a bakery and café. It’s the conversations across the counter, the familiar faces, the steady rhythm of a small island showing up for each other.

We feel so lucky to be part of it.

To say thank you, we’ll be sharing free mini cupcakes all day (8:00am–2:30pm) on May 12 here at Olga Rising. Just a small, sweet way to celebrate together.

We live in such an extraordinary place—this island is absolutely breathtaking. It’s easy to forget and take it all for granted, but today it feels like it’s asking to be noticed. Here are a few moments from my morning walk. 🌲

There are moments in small communities where you can feel it—
when one of our own is standing in the wind, doing what they can to keep the light on.

The West Side Kitchen is one of those places.
Fresh food, good people, and a whole lot of heart behind the counter.

Right now, their lantern is flickering a bit in the wind. Their entire staff has over the years supported Olga Rising in their continued patronage - and we have reciprocated because their food is amazing.

If you’ve ever grabbed a meal there, shared a conversation, or simply appreciate having places like this on our island… this is one of those times where a little collective care can go a long way.

They’ve started a GoFundMe, and if you’re in a place to give—even a small amount—it truly matters.

And if not, sharing their story helps more than you might think.

This island works the way it does because we show up for each other. 🌲✨

A big rave to all the parents, grandparents, and friends who brought their kids out to the fishing derby this past weekend. We’ve been lucky to be part of this island tradition for over a decade—one that’s been going strong for more than thirty years.

Watching these island kids grow up has been priceless. It’s one of my favorite days of the year on Orcas. It always seems like we have so much going on - but both Eddie and I stop everything every year to make sure this event takes place.

Traditions can fade over time, but this one still feels as special as ever. There’s something incredibly heartwarming about it—kids lined up at daybreak, families gathered by the water, that simple kind of joy you don’t see everywhere anymore. It feels like a glimpse of the old island I used to know.

Thank you to everyone who showed up and kept it alive. 🌲🐟

A huge thank you to Annabelle (one of Olga Risings amazing bakers) for making pancakes, the crew at Olga Rising that held down the fort and pulled the extra slack so I could step away. And for Edee for taking these photos and writing a wonderful article on it. Together we have kept it going!
