Island Allies of Indigenous Lifeways are preparing for upcoming Tribal events and Orcas Co-op is grateful to support this organization that fosters decolonization, Indigenous sovereignty and adaptive culture through Tribally-led education and participatory practices.

Here are three ways to contribute!:

1. Donate to the Traditional Foodways Fund at the Orcas Food Co-op. At the check-out counter, simply tell the cashier “I’d like to contribute to Traditional Foodways.” The deadline for this round is June 2, 5p.m., though the fund is ongoing to support future events.

2. Drop off your handmade / homemade / islandmade shelf-stable gifts to share the bounty of these islands, at the Public Library (Fuller room) by June 2 between 10-noon.

3. Come on out! Upcoming Tribal events include:
• 6/13 Return of the Matriarchy event, 5-7pm
• 7/12 Honoring Isil Whi Sen Community event, 10am-3:30pm

“Through the lens of Food as Lifeway, we choose to step into this work as a responsibility to Place and to move toward reconciliation with the islands’ Original Stewards.” 🌊

A Local Soundtrack: Co-op Saturdays with .3!

Music is a powerful form of care and connection. Outside of good food, there is no better community glue than shared music and local voices. We are excited to announce our new weekly tradition…✨Listening Local Saturdays✨in partnership with our volunteer-powered community radio station 102.3 KIXP.

When you come through the Co-op doors on Saturdays, you will hear the voices of your community as you shop the aisles for your favorite local produce and goods.

We invite you to tune your dial to 102.3 FM (or stream at kixp.org) while you bake, cook, or drive to the trailhead for your picnic. It’s a beautiful way to celebrate the day over the community airwaves while keeping our local media footprint thriving. 🎶

Stay tuned to hear who we have lined up for this summer! Photographed here is our epic KIXP regular !

To our incredible Co-op crew

Today we just want to pause and say thank you. The kind of thank you that comes from deep in the chest.

Every day, you show up with reliability, care, and steadiness, even when things get messy. We see your grit, your resilience, and the way you hold space for each other and for this whole community. That kind of character is rare, and it is powerful.

You bring compassion, empathy, and cooperation into every corner of this place. You listen. You support each other. You tend to the work like a shared garden, rooted in humanity as much as skill.

You embody what it means to live with heart. A mix of generosity, kindness, care, and strength all moving together.

Because of you, this Co-op feels whole and alive. A community of real people lifting each other up. That does not happen by accident. It takes intention. It takes values lived out loud. It takes showing up again and again.

So thank you for the late nights, the early mornings, the moments during power outages, the full freight days in the height of summer, the small moments of kindness, and all the ways you make this place meaningful.

We are honored to walk beside you.

With deep gratitude,
Your Co-op Leadership Team

Can you believe that right now Butternut Squash from Horse Drawn Farm is on sale for only $1.99/lb at Orcas Food Co-op?

True to its name Horse Drawn is committed to using draft power from their Belgian Draft horses. All of their products are grown with the greatest of care. They utilize organic practices and rotational mixed species grazing to provide some of the freshest and healthiest produce and meats available anywhere.

Horse Drawn has long been one of the best farms in the San Juans, committed to selling all of what they produce locally in the islands via their farm stand as well as to wholesale markets. We are very grateful for the partnership with them over the years, and happy to be able to share their bounty with the Orcas Food Co-op community. Thank you, Ken, Katherine, Maddie, Tommy and Owen!
