After more than a decade of building, working, and doing business together, Backbone Tavern is officially for sale.

To this day, we continue to welcome new faces who tell us how they heard about the Tavern and couldn’t wait to try it. Most of them come back—often bringing friends and family with them.

That loyalty says more about this business than we ever could.

Backbone Tavern has an intimate, efficient footprint that has produced a remarkable amount of business. The volume that comes through our kitchen on a busy evening is something we are incredibly proud of, and it demonstrates just how strong the demand for this business has become.

For the right person, there is a genuine opportunity to build on what already exists. Expanded hours, additional days, special events, outside events, or simply bringing your own ideas and vision could take an already successful and established business even further.

This isn’t an idea waiting to be tested.

It’s a recognized name with a proven following, an established customer base, a hardworking staff, and more than a decade of history behind it.
Year after year, Garrett County has voted our wings the best in the county. For roughly 9 of the 11 years, we’ve been here; you have given us that honor. We have never taken it lightly.

Backbone has always been about much more than food. We’ve hosted music festivals and more community fundraisers than we could ever count. We celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, victories, and ordinary Friday nights together. Our customers became friends, and many of those friends became family. You brought your children through our doors, and then we watched some of those children grow up. You introduced us to friends, brought family members out of town, shared our posts, defended us, encouraged us, and—most importantly—kept coming back.

That is what is being offered for sale.
Not simply a building or a restaurant, but an opportunity to take over something with a strong foundation, a loyal following, a proven reputation, and tremendous potential for its next chapter.
We don’t have enough words to express our appreciation to our loyal customers, employees, friends, and everyone who has helped make Backbone Tavern what it is.

It is our intention to continue operating until a new owner takes control. Until then, we’ll keep doing what we’ve always done—opening the doors, serving our customers, and enjoying every opportunity to be together.

Whatever comes next, we will forever be grateful for the experience. Thank you for more than a decade of memories, support, friendship, and loyalty.

After three years behind the bar, it’s time for us to say goodbye to one of our own.
Knomi has been more than just a bartender here at Backbone Tavern—she’s been a steady presence, a friendly face, and someone you could always count on. Whether it was a packed night or a quiet evening, you could guarantee one thing… she’d be here, Her reliability, her personality, are things we’re going to miss.That said, we couldn’t be more excited for her next chapter. Knomi is heading to Maine to take on a new role as a campground manager—and if there’s one thing we know, it’s that she’s going to absolutely thrive in that environment, If she can handle our crowd on a busy night, a campground doesn’t stand a chance.
From all of us at Backbone Tavern, we wish you nothing but success, happiness, and maybe just a few quiet nights (you’ve earned them).
We’ll miss you, Knomi—but we’re proud of you. 🍻
