Look out toward the ridge from our patio and you're looking at a place with a pretty wild history.

Just up the road at Dinosaur Ridge, some of the first scientifically recognized dinosaur fossils discovered in the western United States were found in the Morrison Formation.

And yes - Stegosaurus is part of that story. Fossils of Stegosaurus were among the famous discoveries made in the Morrison quarries in the late 1870s. Dinosaur Ridge itself is also home to the site of the first-named Stegosaurus bone fossils.

So that dinosaur statue out back? He's not just here for decoration. 🦖 He's representing.

Remember our post earlier this week about Mount Vernon Creek and Bear Creek - and how they've played a pretty big role in Morrison's history?

Well... there's more to that story.

Morrison has had its share of serious floods over the years, including major floods in 1925 and 1938 that caused significant damage throughout town. Bridges were washed out, roads were damaged, and the normally peaceful creeks became forces to be reckoned with.

It's a good reminder that the beautiful waterways that make Morrison so special have always been a powerful part of the landscape, too.

These days, we're pretty happy to enjoy Mount Vernon Creek from the safety of our creekside patio. 🍻🌊

Just another little piece of Morrison history hiding in plain sight.
