That ridge you've been looking at this whole time? Yeah... it's kind of a big deal.

The Dakota Hogback is one of the defining geological features of the Front Range - a dramatic ridge created by layers of rock that were tilted and pushed upward as the Rocky Mountains formed.

Then erosion did its thing, wearing away the softer rock and leaving the tougher layers standing.

Which means that giant ridge around Morrison isn't just scenery. It's millions of years of geological chaos frozen in place.

So next time you're sitting at MHB looking out at the hills, take a second to appreciate the fact that you're having a b**r in the middle of a geological history book.
