During the fur trade era of the American West, wh***ey served as a powerful commodity and a form of currency for traders and mountain men. To create a potent concoction with an unforgettable kick, traders would mix raw alcohol with ingredients like gunpowder, to***co, red pepper, or snake root. 🐍 🌶️

The addition of gunpowder wasn’t just for flavor—it acted as a crude proof test. If the wh***ey-soaked gunpowder could still catch a spark, it proved the alcohol hadn’t been overly diluted with water. 🥃
