A little bit of story time and show and tell.
Even before we opened our cafe our oldest son has been at the cafe often. Sometimes he plays and entertains himself, bust mostly he likes to help. Especially when he gets to help with creative jobs. I am a bit of a perfectionists so it’s difficult to accept his “help” sometimes.
So I have challenged myself to start saying “yeah, you can help buddy!” and it has made something I already enjoy even more fun. Sure it takes more time to get it done, but that means I get more time with him.
Here are some of his attributions to the cafe and our interactions.
Son - “Here I made this for you!”
Me - “Awesome dude, what is it?”
Son - “It’s a decoration! I made it cause I know decorations make you happy. You look for them all the time.”
Me - “Aw thanks bud! Where do you think we should — ”
Son - “I KNOW RIGHT WHERE YOU CAN PUT IT!!”(Sprinting towards cafe bar, busts through the swinging door, grabs the stool, clambers up, and slams it down on the display case)
Me - “…it’s perfect.”
This happens pretty often and it cracks me up every time. He also wanted to help with the window art (helped me with the pumpkins but he got to make a mushroom on his own).
He recently added signs to the front of the display case to make sure people knew how to get into the play area.
His latest addition was a fireman’s hat that he got when Lakeside Fire-Rescue visited Small Wonders Learning Center recently. He threw it onto the display case on the first try. He was so proud.
I wouldn’t have been able to share these moments with him, my wife, and now you guys, if I just did it myself.
Hope you enjoyed this little view into our lives.
