It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our friend and colleague, Jack Neary.
Benchrest Shooting Hall of Fame member, fi****ms industry executive, and friend to all who had the privilege of knowing him, John “Jack” Neary passed away on the morning of September 25, just hours before he was set to compete in one of his favorite matches, the National Bench Rest Shooters Association (NBRSA) Eastern Fall Finale. Jack left the range while doing what he loved most, surrounded by the sport, competitors, and community that meant so much to him
For more than 30 years, Jack was a driving force in the world of benchrest shooting. A Benchrest Shooting Hall of Fame member, former NBRSA President, World Champion, record holder, and industry leader, his accomplishments on the range were nothing short of extraordinary. Yet those who knew Jack would tell you that his greatest legacy was not measured in trophies, titles, or records.
Jack had a passion for helping others succeed. Whether through clinics, seminars, phone calls, conversations at matches, or his recently launched YouTube channel, All Things Benchrest with Friends, he freely shared his knowledge and experience with anyone eager to learn. He had a unique ability to make both seasoned competitors and first-time shooters feel welcome, valued, and capable.
Jack was a trusted voice in the fi****ms industry and a passionate ambassador for Berger, Lapua, Vihtavuori, and SK. More importantly, he became a mentor and friend to countless individuals across the shooting sports community.
As news of his passing spreads, the stories being shared all carry common themes: Jack's generosity, humility, kindness, and willingness to help others. Words such as gentleman, mentor, teacher, and friend are being used repeatedly, and no tribute could better capture the impact he had on those around him.
While the shooting sports community has lost one of its greatest ambassadors, Jack's legacy will endure through the countless shooters he mentored, the friendships he forged, and the passion for excellence he inspired in others.
Above all else, Jack will be remembered for his unwavering faith in God, his devotion to family, and the joy he found in sharing his love of shooting with others.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Jack's family, friends, and everyone whose life was touched by him.
Thank you, Jack. We'll see you on the range again.
