When Restaurant Iris opened in 2009, Chef Kelly English could not help but keep his eyes peeled on the building next door on the corner of Cooper and Monroe to build the restaurant that really represented the New Orleans that he grew up in, and five years later that restaurant came to fruition as The Second Line. This restaurant was built as a native’s version of what a poboy or a cup of gumbo is, not the touristy food that is so often replicated…we can get into the difference between Cajun and Creole some other time.

Equally born to help serve as a casual answer to Restaurant Iris (that did not have a bar), The Second Line became a institution celebrating countless football and basketball game watches, rehearsal dinners, birthdays, charity events, and also the quiet and enjoyable midweek meetup with friends and family.

As our restaurant group will always seek, we happened across an opportunity to make both our company stronger and the jobs we offer better while intentionally positioning our spaces to deliver what our guests are looking for. Swamp Bar has made its presence known in a bigger way than we could have ever imagined since opening in November two years ago… and let’s just say, she’s only getting started. Something new is coming, something that honors where we’ve been and where we’re headed next both with the Swamp Bar, and with The Second Line!

The Second Line is going right back to where it has always belonged- In the beginning of the year, The Second Line will move next door to Restaurant Iris, now in Laurelwood. Let’s let the good times roll, best friends.

Oh, and for the space that The Second Line has occupied for the last decade (and will continue to occupy through the end of 2025)? More to come on that soon, emphasis on “more.”
