We had a cancellation this morning for Saturday unfortunately; a family emergency will prevent Nikki Nelson and Steve Oliver from performing. We hope things turn from bad to a whole lot better for them both as I know this decision was not made lightly.

We have our own stellar line up of musicians beginning Friday night with Lou Ann Price Music, a singer/songwriter whose soulfully sweet voice combined with her signature pearl white Gretsch 12-string guitar breath new life into every song she sings. On Saturday we feature a duo straight oughta Texas folklore; Nikki Nelson and Steve Oliver are two incredible talents both vocally and on guitar combining classic country sounds with a h***y tonk attitude! Nikki sang lead in the Highway 101 band after Paulette Carlson stepped aside and Steve Oliver Country is a multi-time Billboard chart topping guitar player/vocalist whose 15’th studio album “Inner Fire” is set to debut on June 15’th of this year!

We need something refreshing for our Sunday sundae today, something simple, fruity and thirst quenching! How’s about a triple scoop cup of sorbets; tequila infused “Mango Margarita”, Limoncello infused “Raspberry Mellow Yellow” and peach wine infused “Peach Bellini” with a nice dollop of bourbon vanilla whipped cream and a cherry as always for good luck… 🍒

Sunday scripture: Acts 10:48 KJB… “And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.”

Peter and his Hebrew companions water baptize Cornelius and his family; what a journey for all concerned! The times they are a-changin’ as Bob Dylan wrote! The book of Acts follows, in fine detail, the fall of Israel and Gods shift away from them towards the world of Gentile nations.

Romans 11:11 KJB… “I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy.”

Cornelius encourages Peter to remain for a few days but it’s time to be heading back home to Jerusalem because…

Acts 11:1 KJB… “And the apostles and brethren that were in Judaea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.”

…word travels quickly…

Acts 11:2-3 KJB… “And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him, Saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them.”

…the Jews took issue with what Peter had done. They had not been given the vision God gave to Peter.

Acts 11:4 KJB… “But Peter rehearsed the matter from the beginning, and expounded it by order unto them, saying,”

Peter rehearses the entire story with them. Verses 11:5-14 retell the tale; we’ll pick up here…

Acts 11:15 KJB… “And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.”

…as this is the moment of clarity.

Acts 11:16 KJB… “Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.”

Everything changed for Peter when God baptized Cornelius the Gentile (and his house) with the Holy Ghost. His Hebrew church brethren now need to learn the same.

About 6 or 7 years ago a good friend of mine took some fresh grafts off one of his fig trees and carefully rooted them. This here tree is the result of a single small planting. It has grown tremendously in this fairly short period of time (it’s literally 15 feet tall!) but has not yet produced more than a fig here or there. It seems that’s about to change this year, take a good look at the close-up shot of the branch loaded up with figs! Not every branch is quite as full and some have yet to fruit at all but hopefully this is the start of a remarkably beautiful tree really beginning to do its thing! Just walking past it is a pleasure, the air smells like sweet honey every time I pass it on the way to gather eggs from the chicken coop… 😊 Figs do great here in Texas, maybe some of you would like to plant one too?

Another warm one today as the thermometer tries to reach past 90 degrees… it will tomorrow! Mostly sunny out there and still kind of humid. Overnight lows down around the mid 70’s. This will be the pattern for the next week or so, until it’s not, of course… 😆 We got us a fine weekend to play with!

Come play with us, why doncha? We got nearly everything ya need to help cool ya off; cold beer, crafty cocktails, ice cream cocktails, ice cream and 100 flavors of the boozy ice cream too! Teamwork in action right here friends! It takes two Golden Retrievers to pull the rope toy from a Cane Corso… 😆 We love our K9 krew and we know you love yours too, cause everyone knows their dog is the best dog ever, and everyone is right about that! Did y’all know we make a dairy free “ice cream” for the doggies? We call it “Puppernutter”! It’s made with peanut butter and banana, garnished with tiny biscuits and lemme tell ya, the pups absolutely love them a cup of it! Next time you feel like comin’ to town for your fix of the boozy goodness, bring Fido with ya and treat him to a sweet frozen treat as well, you know he deserves it… 😊

It sure was raining this time yesterday morning, glad that system has moved on along. We’ll have us a mix of sun and clouds today with just a 10% chance of an afternoon shower and a high temp right at 85 degrees. Similar conditions tomorrow but warmin’ up to 90! Summers almost here and so too will be Russ Lowry Music bringin’ his signature classic country sounds to the Barlor Friday night!

Good day everybody, it sure is warmin’ up out there and as those temperatures rise we all need to cool down some. There’s no better way to cool down than with some ice cream and there’s no better ice cream than our Killer Vaniller D’Extra! This special gallon is made with Maker's Mark No. 46, a bourbon finished with 10 French oak staves per barrel in an effort to reduce bitterness and accentuate those wonderful vanilla, caramel and spicy flavors a good bourbon embraces. Mission accomplished! Come get you a cup with a wee dram extra poured on top while the gallon lasts… 😁

We’re startin’ the day with mostly cloudy skies today and those clouds will be hangin’ around for a while amidst peeks of sun. A chance of showers later in the day with high temps up around 84 degrees. Cooler air moves in overnight and those chances become much more likely; rain tomorrow but tapering off by karaoke time! We can use a no-rain vibe or two for Friday cause we don’t want it to rain on Russ Lowry Music’s parade… 😆

Sure was a mighty fine Memorial Day weekend, hope y’all had fun with family and friends. Happy Memorial Day everyone, it sure is nice to have that extra weekend day to play. We enjoy such luxury due to the eternal vigilance it takes to keep this constitutional republic functioning as proposed in our documented founding principles. I say that sincerely while at the same time recognizing the severely compromising effects of a totalitarian technate attempting to consolidate power reserved to We The People for itself own self aggrandizement. Today we honor and remember those who took the oath to defend our constitution from all enemies both foreign and domestic. It seems to me that our greatest foe is domestic, the machinations of a self funding rogue system seeking power for powers sake, incapable of self regulation. May We The People, before it is too late, not allow the sacrifices already made in defense of our noble republican founding be in vain. May Americans once again stand together in the land of the free and be the brave, seeking truth and justice in a world swiftly moving towards normalizing deceit and treachery. Our most virulent enemies are domestic, the most difficult to vanquish; their goal to divide and thus conquer We The People. It is my prayer that enough of us reach the conclusion that only together as Americans united against this rogue system can we ever hope to maintain that lawful constitutional republic we were gifted with and are stewards over.

It looks to be a mostly gorgeous day today with just a slight chance of some quickly passing afternoon showers. Highs up in the mid 80’s with hopefully lots more sunshine than clouds. Sunday scripture: Acts 10:44-45 KJB… “While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that ON THE GENTILES ALSO was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.”

They of the circumcision are of course Hebrews, Peter chief among them and they are astonished by the sudden and unexpected presence of the Holy Ghost giving power to the several Gentiles gathered at the home of Cornelius. Such had not happened before.

Acts 10:46-47 KJB… “For they heard them SPEAK WITH TONGUES, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?”

What is the first course of action Peter suggests? Water baptism! Why?

Mark 16:15-17 KJB… “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth AND IS BAPTIZED shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall SPEAK WITH NEW TONGUES;”

Because it’s his job. Compare that with Paul’s commission.

1 Corinthians 1:17 KJB… “For Christ sent me NOT to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.”

If the words of God are pure, preserved words, it’s inescapable by these words to recognize that Peter and Paul had differing ministries. Peter was sent to baptize. Paul was not. Until now, Peter’s ministry was to the Jews alone. We will see, it remains as such and Paul will pick up where God leaves Peter off.

Both men preached Christ to specific people for specific purposes. Gods lesson to Peter; He’s moving away from Israel, towards the Gentiles.

TGIF, it’s gonna be a goodun y’all! Not only does the weekend begin today, it’s Live Music Friday at the Barlor and we feature one of the best dang bands in town this evening, Bedlam Station! If good time rollin’ “90’s country” and “classic rock” sounds are your thing, you’ll wanna hang with us tonight for sure, cause this band’s got all that and a whole lot more… 🤠 Come on in, grab a table and don’t be late, the first set starts at 8:00!

Had a little drizzle overnight and that’s alright, the no-rain vibes did their thing once again. We got us a mix of sun and clouds for the rest of the day with a high of a very comfortable 82 degrees and overnight lows in the upper 60’s. Beautiful! A 60% of chance of scattered thundershowers Saturday afternoon, diminishing to near zero as our Sunday begins.

Ain’t no better way to start a weekend than with a fine meal and downtown McKinney is the perfect place to find exactly that.
