THE MISCHIEF MAKER is a cake and dessert business based in Lexington, Kentucky that specializes in exquisitely crafted one-of-a-kind wedding cakes, sugar flowers, renowned flavors, and celebration cakes. The Mischief Maker i

s sure to delight both the taste buds and the eyes with a stunning wedding cake emblazoned with dozens of our hand-sculpted sugar flowers. We show careful attention to menu creation, dessert presentation, color palette, and possess a dedication to concept development on your order. We believe your wedding cake can be the visual and culinary centerpiece of your wedding reception and, as such, should exceed all your expectations. The Mischief Maker elevates details and customization over mass production and cutting corners. While many other professional cake makers place more importance on standardization, leaving their most detailed work for periodicals and competition, we believe our best work should always be the work we deliver for your special day. One-on-one consultation, custom color palettes and the highest ingredient standards are just where we start. It’s our pain-staking attention to detail that truly sets us apart: delicately-thin rose petals that allow light to pass through, exquisite veining on our sugar flowers, an eye to the overall affect that will leave you and your guests breathless. We take on fewer cakes, so no corners need be cut to deliver volume rather than quality. This is our difference and we believe a Mischief Maker cake offers an unrivaled experience and outstanding value. The Mischief Maker, based in Lexington, Kentucky provides wedding cakes in Lexington, Kentucky and in surrounding states, including, but not limited to the following areas: Louisville, Lexington, Bowling Green, Ashland, and Pikeville. We receive many wedding cake requests from other areas, including out-of-state, in cities such as Cincinnati, Evansville, Chicago, New York City, Pennsylvania, Nashville, Asheville, and Charleston. If you live outside the areas listed above, or you’re having a destination event, feel free to email or message us to make arrangements, so we can begin planning your cake; these are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. The Mischief Maker has been featured in numerous magazines and online blogs both for sugar flower wedding and celebration cakes, as well as sculpted cakes. Creative Director of The Mischief Maker, Alex Narramore is a botanically accurate sugar flower artist based in Lexington, KY. Merging her love for gardening with sculpting and color, Alex grows the specimens in her garden that she needs to study and observe to accurately sculpt to a correct scale and paint the sugar flowers that will later adorn her cakes. Each sugar petal, stamen, and flower part is made by hand and each finished bloom is hand painted. The cake designs are retired immediately upon baking and are never recreated. Very low volume, only one cake per month is ideally accepted, as the detail work for each cake can take many weeks of preparation. Alex works with her mother on the sugar flowers at her grandmother’s house in eastern Kentucky. Tucked away in the mountains, they do some of their best creative work with their sugar flowers. Whether at Mamaw’s or in her home garden downtown in Lexington, she can always be found somewhere between the garden and the studio, usually with her Irish Setter, Mocha, on her heels. Alex has been recognized world-wide within her field, including: periodical publications, news outlets, being named one of the top four international wedding cake designers of 2015 by the Cake Masters’ Awards, and being named, by prestigious judges: Sylvia Weinstock, Mike McCarey, Chef Nicholas Lodge, Colette Peters, Ron Ben- Israel, Kerry Vincent, Eddie Spence M.B.E., Chef Sherry Yard, and Lisa Mansour, the 2017 winner of the award for international wedding cake artist of the year by The Golden Tier Awards. The Golden Tier Awards is the first American-hosted, international awards show of its kind. This exclusive event brings together pastry chefs, cake and sugar-artists, dessert professionals, authors and writers, chocolatiers, instructors, and retailers from across the globe to celebrate the very best the industry has to offer. In 2018, The Mischief Maker was named one of the top 10 cake artists in the United States by Cake Masters magazine.

Suze and Tonic at Rosette (which has a very different meaning as a name in German 😂) 😳

Gardens at Hotel Dieu

An excellent Caesar salad at Rosette. Was booked out the night before, so we came back for lunch. So perfect. Anchovies, cured local prosciutto.

Pretty tiles.

Love these so so much. Hospital is a bit heavy subject matter wise, but the details beautiful.

Apothecary jars in the old pharmacy at Hotel Dieu

AMAZING.

Love the red orange. Tomato red. Pink. Normal orange and blue reds together.

Colors.

Crepes on the street at their sister restaurant .

Crepe Sucre. Simple and perfect.

Best gin and tonic I've had in a very long time.

Café du Palais in Reims. Obsessed with this interior. And lots of red in general lately. Red and blue I'm loving together in unison too. Wondering if the nook should have a stained glass ceiling in my fantasy upgrade 😅😂. I love an eclectic place with soul and so happy when i come upon them. Obsessed with Reims. Could easily spend two to three days here !

Kayaking in Dinant, Belgium today. The first route was closed, because the water level was too low. So, we pivoted. This is the second city of the euro road trip. We hung out at the apartment for a few days in Bochum for Stefan's birthday. Then went to Darbuy and the first overnight stay in Dinant in Belgium. (The Darbuy stop was Monshau and a walk in the high Fens or remouchamps cave but there are bad forest fires right now) . Then to Reims. (Here now.) Then Paris. Then Beaune. Then Bruges. Ghent. And Amsterdam. Maybe Utrecht . Maybe Rotterdam. And back to the apartment. Wild to start out the day kayaking in Belgium and end up hanging out in Reims at night!

I have to say I was positively THRILLED when my last minute guest "other Alex" brought his date Imani to the house. SO much fun was had. I loved every second of it. We hung out here. I called and got them a spot on the couch on the roof Dudley's On Short . And they invited me back out after 😂. I just love how the universe provides just the right thing exactly when you need it ! This is my favorite part of having the B&B — people arrive as strangers and sometimes the whole thing turns into an adventure.

Also thank you to Christie Angel for the fun B&B graphics ! And yes, if you swipe all the way through, there’s a little more Mischief at the end including my digital, on-demand Signature Cake & Buttercream Class. 🎂

I realized recently that I’ve been sitting on something kind of ridiculous.

Years ago, I filmed myself teaching the cake recipe I spent YEARS developing for The Mischief Maker — and then basically left it sitting on the internet.

The entire reason I developed this cake was to solve a problem: I wanted a cake tender and flavorful enough to make people’s eyes roll back in their heads, but sturdy enough to stack, carve, sculpt and actually build with.

It started with my Appalachian Granny’s White Buttermilk Cake, and over the years it became the foundation underneath so much of my work.

And somehow I filmed the whole thing.

My White Buttermilk Cake, Swiss Meringue Buttercream, soaking syrup, and the techniques I actually use — condensed into about an hour in my kitchen.

The Mischief Maker Signature Cake & Buttercream Class is now $47 and available digitally, on demand. — link in bio. 🎂

Come bake with me. 🎂
