Ferguson and Heffelfinger repeat as HCC Invitational Champions

Andrew Ferguson of Tyrone and Trey Heffelfinger of Mount Union, recently won the championship flight of the 2026 Huntingdon Country Club Invitational. They defeated the father-team of Lantz and Luke Thompson of Huntingdon in this match play tournament. They have won this tournament three years in a row.

Finishing third in the championship flight were the team of Dustin Border of Huntingdon and Kyle Kyper of McKees Rock.

Nick Troha of Huntingdon and J.W. Cunningham of the Pittsburgh area defeated Derrick Soellner and Steve Miksich, both of the Tyrone area, to win the first flight. Brady Goodling and Hunter Atherton, both of Mount Union, placed third.

The second flight was won by Dave Snyder, Sr., and David Snyder, Jr., who defeated Nate Sharpless and Brian Linn. John Cook and Tanner Cook finished in third place.

Barry Weyandt and Robert Knisely won the third flight by defeating Frank Brown and Kyle Derugen. Finishing in third place was the team of Brandon Brown and Gary Rife.

The fourth flight winners were Chip Lewis and Rick Myers who defeated Glenn Young and Andy Young. The third place team was John Franks and Brent Franks.

Dave Consiglio and David Dwyer won the fifth flight by defeating Rob Taylor and Jonathan Wasovich. Jake and Kevin Syzmanski placed third.

HCC Invitational consisted of ninety-six golfers (48 teams) representing several area golf clubs including Huntingdon Country Club, American Legion Country Club, Sinking Valley Country Club, Down River Golf Course and Park Hills Country Club.

HCC Hosts Opening Match of 2026 Women’s Golf Association
of Central Pennsylvania Season

Huntingdon Country Club hosted the opening match of the 2026 Women’s Golf Association of Central Pennsylvania season on Tuesday, June 9. This marked HCC’s first opportunity to host since joining the organization.

The Central Counties association includes eight clubs from across the region: Belles Springs, Centre Hills, Huntingdon, Iron Masters, Lewistown, Mount Union, Nittany, and Philipsburg. Five ladies from each club for a total of 40 ladies participated in this opening match which featured a match play format and a points system to determine the tournament winner.

Belles Springs finished as the day’s points winner. Individual award winners included:

• Stacy Redman (Nittany) — Low Gross Score (80)
• Gloria Carbaugh (Huntingdon) — Low Net Score (69)
• Jill Wagner (Lewistown) — Closest to the Pin, Hole #8
• Annie Rossi (Centre Hills) — Closest to the Pin, Hole #12

“We were incredibly honored to welcome the Central Counties association to Huntingdon Country Club,” said representatives Gloria Carbaugh and Rachelle Hopsicker, who represented HCC within the association. “The day was a wonderful opportunity to showcase not only our beautiful course, but also the hospitality, teamwork, and spirit of our club.”

Club leadership credited the success of the event to the tremendous support of the HCC Women’s Golf League and numerous volunteers who assisted throughout the day.

Special thanks were extended to Gloria Carbaugh and Judy Post for coordinating tournament logistics, Donna Morgan for her guidance and support during planning. And, Annie Rossi for creating the organizational spreadsheets and tournament materials.

Recognition was also given to John Cook, HCC General Manager, Morgan Sample, HCC Events & Catering Manager, and Thomas Wilson and Eric Mykut for assisting with transporting golf bags to and from vehicles and carts, as well as to the entire HCC staff for their outstanding hospitality and service throughout the event.

Additional appreciation was extended to Paul Post for his behind-the-scenes support helping the tournament run smoothly, and to Ed Strickler for ensuring players and guests remained supplied with water and ice during the warm day on the course.

HCC expressed appreciation to all participating golfers and clubs for making the opening event of the season a tremendous success.
