We’ve seen a few questions and comments about where our Local Hero comes from and why we’re doing it, so we wanted to share a little of its story.

This style of sandwich has a long history in Central PA, dating back to the 1950s in Tyrone. We didn’t invent it, and we have tremendous respect for its history.

Years ago, people who are family to us and originators with this sandwich taught us how to make it and gave us their blessing to serve it. We first offered it at Moxmoe Pictures Famous Sandwiches while we were in Huntingdon.

After coming to State College, people found some of those old posts and began asking us to make it again. With that same blessing, we brought it back as The Local Hero.

It’s not a typical Moxmoe Pictures Famous Sandwiches sub, but we’ve always been about things that are unique. Paying homage to this unique Central PA style of sub, while respecting its history, feels like a perfect fit for what we’re about.

We’re grateful for the trust, grateful to those who asked us to bring it back, and thankful for the opportunity to carry the tradition forward.

That being said…today is the LAST DAY to place your preorders for Tuesday! Don’t miss your chance to get yours next week 😋🧅

We had to pause a minute during vacation to say we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who voted for us and helped make this possible.

Gold — Best Sandwich
Silver — Best Deli
Silver — Best Takeout

We’re humbled to think that a small sandwich shop—and the simple idea of making great subs for great people—could grow into something that means this much to our community. To think we accomplished this with basically no advertising is quite a feat.

To our regulars who continue to support us, and to every first-time customer who decided to give us a try: thank you. Every order, every conversation, every recommendation, and every vote has helped us get here.

A special thank-you goes to our small team. Their hard work, care, and commitment to great customer service are at the heart of everything we do. They believe in the product we serve and the brand we are building together.

We are grateful, humbled, and excited for what comes next.

Thank you for believing in us and for letting us keep building Unique Subs for Unique Stories.

Thank you,
Moxmoe Pictures Famous Sandwiches.

Big MoeJo is officially off the clock. 🌴

We’re taking a little break to rest, recharge, and make a few highlights of our own.

Moxmoe Pictures Famous Sandwiches will be closed September 6th - 14th and will reopen Tuesday, September 15th.

Thank you for supporting our sandwich shop and giving us the chance to step away for a bit. We’ll see you when we get back—rested, recharged, and ready to make some good sandwiches. There also may be some surprises coming too. 😉 🎁

UPDATE: the universe decided it wanted to make a fool out of us and the power came back on shortly after this post went up. 🤦🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️ So we’re getting started with our day over here and hopefully should be ready for 11 AM opening!

Well… apparently the universe decided we needed a little extra excitement this morning. 😂

We just got to the shop and the power is OUT. 😩

West Penn Power is currently estimating restoration around 10:00 AM, so we’re keeping a close eye on things.

In the meantime, we’ve paused all online ordering until we’re certain the power is back and we’re able to safely get everything up and running. We don’t want anyone placing an order that we may not be able to fulfill!

As soon as we know more, we’ll let you know. And hopefully the lights—and the ovens—will be back on soon because we’ve got sandwiches to make. ❤️

Thanks for your patience and understanding this morning!
