Birmingham friends — this one is really special to me. ❤️🏈
This Thursday, September 24, we have the privilege of hosting Jerry Leachman at Ashley Mac’s for a signing of his new book, Brave Hearts, Strong Arms: Locker Room Talks for the Only Game That Matters.
But this isn’t just another book signing for me. Jerry was a dear friend of my dad’s. They played football together at The University of Alabama under Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant — and, even more importantly, Jerry was the person who led my dad to the Lord.
It’s hard for me to put into words the ripple effect that one decision had on our family. My dad’s faith had an enormous impact on my own faith and on the way I have tried to live, raise my family, and even build Ashley Mac’s. So getting to host Jerry all these years later feels incredibly full circle and very personal to me.
Jerry’s Alabama roots run deep. He grew up in Montgomery, played football at Alabama under Coach Bryant, and later coached right here in Birmingham at Briarwood Christian School. He went on to serve as chaplain for the Washington Redskins under Hall of Fame Coach Joe Gibbs and has spent more than 40 years pouring into men — athletes, coaches, military leaders, businessmen, husbands and fathers.
Now he has taken so much of the wisdom he has shared through decades of “locker-room talks” and put it into his new book, Brave Hearts, Strong Arms.
It’s a book about the things that really matter — faith, marriage, fatherhood, friendship, leadership, courage, purpose and finishing well.
Knowing firsthand the impact Jerry had on my own dad — and ultimately on generations of our family — makes me especially excited to share him with Birmingham.
I would LOVE for our community to show up and support him. Bring your husband, dad, son, coach or friend, come meet Jerry, and grab a signed copy of the book. I truly think this is one you’ll want to give to the men you love.
