Three couples wowed the crowd Saturday night at the Cam-plex Wyoming Center during Dancing with the Gillette Stars, the annual fundraiser for the YES House Foundation.

Now that the dance is done, we’d love to share the story behind our song, our theme, and all the little details we put into tying it together! ❤️♠️

The song: “Hey Look Ma, I Made It” by Panic! at the Disco.

When we were asked if we had any songs in mind, Thomas had an answer right away. For him, this song carried a meaning that went far beyond the dance floor.

Thomas grew up in a single mother home, and members of his family used the YES House’s services for both crisis care and longer stays. Its work is part of his family’s story, which made participating in this fundraiser especially meaningful.

Sadly, his mom passed away just two weeks after he graduated high school. At the time, she was caring for her granddaughter, Jade. Now 25, Jade was there to watch her uncle dance, making the evening even more special.

The final words of our performance were an homage to Thomas’s mother, a message to the mom who wasn’t there to see it, but was very much part of that moment:

“Hey look Ma, I made it.” ❤️

The theme: That was all Tara!

Tara welcomed our song suggestion and built the choreography and theme around it, bringing everything together in a way we never could have imagined ourselves!

The little details:

♠️ We had decks of cards made and pulled the aces to give to the judges. We also made mini aces to promote the All Mighty Dollar fundraiser, tying back to the song’s line, “Everything’s coming up aces!”

📸 We had “Cake Poparazzi” shirts made—a little play on our cake pop business and a wink at our newfound “celebrity status.” 😂

We created a custom cake pop flavor inspired by an old cake recipe, Lazy Daisy, bringing a little nostalgic sweetness into the celebration.

From the song to the choreography, the cards, the shirts, and even the cake pops, there was a little thought behind every piece. We’re grateful we got to share the dance with you and now, the story behind it. ❤️

Wow… the morning after!

As we sit and reflect on competing in the YES House Foundations Dancing with the Gillette Stars, it still feels surreal. Months of practice, interviews, video shoots, rehearsals, and stress… and we officially crossed the finish line!

Team Dodge brought home the Judges’ Choice Technical Award! We’re competitive, we won’t pretend otherwise, but this award means so much because it was earned through something within our own control: the effort we put in, our commitment to learning, and the performance we brought to the dance floor. We challenged ourselves, stuck with it, and actually LEARNED TO DANCE!

Along the way, we gained a whole new appreciation for everything that happens behind the scenes to make this event possible. We’ve always considered ourselves hardworking, but watching everyone pour so much into this event every. Single. Day. was incredible.

To our choreographer, Tara: you are an artist in your field. Thank you for guiding us, believing in us, and making sure we knew how proud you were of our commitment and performance. We’re so grateful we got to share this experience with you.

To our liaisons Lana Randen-Gaskins and Wendy Peabody Balo thank you for keeping us hydrated, finding socks when we forgot ours, keeping snacks in our stomachs so we could keep going, and always being there for whatever we needed! Those little things made a big difference.

To the group dancers: WOW! We only had to learn a fraction of what you did, and you absolutely killed it! We see the work you put in, and we appreciate your talent, dedication, and the energy you brought to that stage!

To the judges: thank you for the time, energy, and care you gave to this event. You had the difficult responsibility of judging each performance, yet you still found ways to be supportive, encouraging, and kind to every single team. We appreciate the thought you put into your feedback and the encouragement you gave us along the way!

To Mary and Wes: what can we say? You poured yourselves into this event, always available, always listening, and somehow keeping everything moving while making sure everyone was taken care of. Your hard work helped make this night an incredible success. Thank you for all you do!

We’re also incredibly proud of the funds we helped raise alongside the other teams for the foundation. Behind all the competition, costumes, and nerves, that was the purpose of this entire night and something we’ll always be proud to have been part of.

Thank you to the other teams for being great sports and making it a fun competition!

Thank you to everyone who watched, donated, cheered us on, and supported us, in person, in spirit, and from the sidelines. We appreciate every single one of you!

Tonight is the night! 💃 🕺

We are so excited to see everyone tonight!
After months of practice we are READY!

We appreciate every single person that rounded up, bought Cake Poparazzi Shirts, participated in the raffle and of course all the all mighty dollar contributions!

We want to thank the YES House Foundation for everything they do behind the scenes to make this happen. A huge thank you to L&H Industrial for sponsoring Team Dodge! Thank you Tara Konyn for the long nights, dedication and instruction! You’re an amazing choreographer, and we are so proud to be a part of your vision!
