In 1957, a homemaker named Mrs. George Clay from Dallas, Texas, created a layered chocolate cake using a “specific sweet chocolate”.

She topped and filled the cake with a cooked custard frosting made with coconut and pecans.

ïżŒ On June 7, 1957, Mrs. George Clay submitted her home recipe to the Dallas Morning News for their "Recipe of the Day" column.

The recipe was an instant sensation!

Her recipe combined Samuel German’s sweet baking chocolate bar with a highly unique, rich, cooked custard frosting made of evaporated milk, sugar and brown sugar , butter, egg yolks, shredded coconut, and chopped pecans.

She titled this now famous recipe “German's Sweet Chocolate Cake”!

😋This topping is worthy of eating by the spoon full!!

Coconut Pecan Topping:
3/4 cups evaporated milk
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup of sugar
3 egg yolks
1 cup coconut flakes
1 cup chopped pecans
2 teaspoon of vanilla
( measure with your heart for the coconut and pecansâ˜ș)
