I took this picture in 2020, a lot has changed in 6 years!!!
As you may know, Food Riot is no longer a restaurant. This year we officially became a non profit/public charity!! We partnered up with our amazing neighbors at St. Joeโs Plaza, AMEN Food Pantry and Church at Dickinson, to provide two hot meals per week in addition to our newest goal of keeping a stocked indoor FREE TO EVERYONE community pantry, that we have named Nanaโs Pantry after my own very sweet mom, Nana Sue. ๐๐๐
We have been so blessed to have so many helpers from the community make this happen. For 6 months now, a little word of mouth and a lot of prayer has brought us just enough donations and volunteers to never miss a day of scheduled hot food service.
With that said, we grew really fast after adding the nutritious and delicious salad bar to our nightly menu, and we are finding ourselves needing to ramp up our fundraising and volunteer recruiting!!
If you are able to help us continue our mission to feed anybody and everybody a hot meal with zero barriers and a lot of love, here is a quick list of how you can get involved! ๐๐ป๐๐๐ป
1. Volunteer! ๐ I acknowledge that weโve (mostly me๐ซข) been a hot mess in the past as we started up this crazy adventure, but we do now have one person to call or show up and ask for. ๐๐ป๐ชฝ๐๐ป
Toni from Church @ Dickinson! She is taking over management of our program, so Jill (me) can take more time to focus on saving my family from some corrupt CPS workers in Williston (itโs bad up there guys, like the wild wild west๐ณ). Anyways mist of you already know that Toni is amazing in all ways and I could not be more excited to have her in charge after witnessing her passion here. She has been here since the very first day too!! So please give Toni a call if youโd like to set up a first time to volunteer. Or stop in between 3&4 on a Tuesday or Thursday and ask for Toni ๐ชฝ๐๐ป๐
2. Donate food ๐๐๐๐๐
Our biggest challenge is funding the salad bar. We try to make sure we always have a nice selection of healthy vegetables and fresh fruit/melon.
Also, perishables. If you have meat or cheese of any type that you would like to donate, we are there every day at noon and five and will happily except perishables, including frozen foods!
3. Money! ๐ค Since we are a nonprofit, if you choose to donate money to us, it is tax deductible!!
While we havenโt had the time to set up a structured sponsorship programs (yet), any businesses or individuals that choose to donate to us (employee volunteer time or money) will have the opportunity to be showcased on our page and tagged in our content which has approximately 4K local following for a good sized advertising reach.
We accept cash, of course, or checks can be written to Food Riot Foundation. ๐๐ป๐ชฝ๐๐ป
4. Supplies!! Fellow restaurants, do you have any 8โ or 9โ inch clamshells you could spare? We send a lot of our meals out to go and seem yo always be running out of these! If anyone out there could stock us up with any extra they might have we would really appreciate it!!!
We could also use to go soup cups with lids, deli containers, plastic forks- honestly any type of to go packaging would be helpful!! ๐
We appreciate everyone in the community for helping to make this resource possible.
We have witnessed so many amazing moments happen in this great building and it has been a huge blessing to be able to give back in the same location that brought us so many blessings already. ๐๐ชฝ๐
We look forward to being here for years to come, and always having a seat for everyone at the Food Riot table.
Thank you to anyone who can help, and of course to everyone who has already helped us. And a special thank you to Melissa Gordon who, thanks to her 2k per month donations, we were able to start providing the salad bar. ๐๐ชฝ๐ We appreciate you! ๐๐๐ป๐
