When it comes to Fall flavors, which one of these describes you best? Team:
A: Caramel Apple pie
B: Snap-O-Lantern
C: I’ll stick to my personal favorite
D: As long as there is ice cream involved I’m happy!

The countdown is on for the final few weeks of the season. Regardless of what flavor(s) is calling your name, be sure to get it on your fall to-do list before our final day of the season.

With it being our 10th year with all of you, our final date is still to be determined, but we are leaning heavily toward November 8…pending no early snowstorms in the forecast. Call us crazy but you know it’s happened before!

Area educators and Luther College aspiring educators this is for you! Luther Students are BACK in Decorah and last night's Activity Fair was a great kick off to the year ahead. As everyone heads to their first day of class on campus today we're looking forward to seeing those first day of school pictures just as much as your family back home.

Speaking of the first day of school...Just last week our feeds were flooded with first day photos (children and teachers alike), and we're sure this year's teachers reflected on all of the hard work it took to get to this point. Imagine how encouraging it would have been to have a working professional meet you before you had a degree in hand.
Before you student taught or had your first placement.
Someone to show first-hand that the hard work pays off.
Someone to share a success story of the student who was influenced by something you did.

This Saturday we highly encourage you to be that someone for a current Luther Student (and PS There's free ice cream involved!)

Join us THIS SATURDAY, 7:30pm at Sugar Bowl for the easiest and sweetest networking event ever.

Have a little more time on your hands? Join the students as they walk from the Union starting at 7pm.

Stay for as long as your evening allows with one goal: to build a network for these aspiring & professional educators throughout NE Iowa.

The Sweetest Detail: All professional and aspiring educators who attend will be entered to win a Sugar Bowl gift card, because life is a whole lot sweeter when we work together.

Follow Luther College Aspiring Educators and DM "Sugar Bowl stroll" for a bonus entry.
Follow Sugar Bowl for a second bonus entry.

DM with any questions.

See you Saturday!

If you're like us and you just got home from 1, 2 or 3+ open houses, I'm guessing you may be just as baffled as we are. Adding my Mama hat to my marketing one, I'm truly stunned how each Summer can go faster than the one before. Each season, both on the calendar and in life, can somehow go faster than the last. And each family "last", comes more quickly than each "first".

How did we go from our first year at John Cline to our last in the blink of an eye, yet our kids have a 7 year age gap? Wasn't the oldest entering TK just last year? The walk to Claiborne Drive is familiar, yet I'm still not wrapping my head around the fact that we've somehow hit our High School era.

And yet it all makes sense. It's been 10 seasons behind the counter. A whole decade of scoops.
Of memories and traditions.
Of our family growing up alongside each of yours. With all of the back-to-school emotions in the air, it's not always easy to feel ready for the next chapter, but it's easy to see how lucky we are to start another one with all of you.

So as we enter the final weekend of Summer, take a moment to snap a photo in front of the mural, watch the sunset from the balcony, and enjoy a scoop together as you reminisce about the previous years as you prepare for the one ahead.

And PS: Buy the school-color-themed tees. They'll wear them often and pass them down to the next sibling, but you'll have to provide your own tissues when you flip back and forth between the photos.😉🥺😭

Happy last weekend of Summer everyone. Enjoy every second.

If you haven't in the last 10 years....meet Carter!

The oldest of the Todd trio, he's been unknowingly posing for Sugar Bowl for most of his life (that second pic is from 2013, back when we were "just" customers at Sugar Bowl!)

Although you may not see him behind the counter often, you can find him traveling with Sugar Bowl Mobile all around the state....That is when he's not playing football, wrestling, running track, participating in Mock Trial, MathCounts, or helping with his younger siblings.

A fun fact about him is that even though he loves football, he also ran in the Middle School State Cross Country meet in 8th grade, and completed 2 Spartan races by age 12.

When dining in Decorah you'll find him enjoying Mabes Pizza or Pizza Ranch, and inside the shop he's probably holding a scoop of Cherry Chocolate Chip: Vanilla ice cream loaded with cherries and melt-in-your-mouth chocolate chips.

Find Carter (and Sugar Bowl Mobile) in Staceyville on Monday evening for their back-to-school night, before he takes on his first year of High School in Decorah later this month.

We're not W***y Wonka, but life feels like the world of pure imagination at the Chocolate Factory when you put a scoop of Sugar Bowl ice cream inside of an edible bowl. (Don't worry, we always serve this bowl in a dish. These are on the table for photographic purposes only.)

When you order a Waffle Bowl, there's still plenty of room for toppings, so order your favorite scoop of Espresso Oreo as is, or add more Oreos, hot fudge and sprinkles. When Rhubarb Crumble is calling your name, try it with Strawberry topping (ok Oreos would probably be delicious on that as well) and add the whipped cream on top just because you can.

And if you're feeling like you've made enough decisions today, ask the team what they recommend you top your scoops with. With the follow options available, it's easy to find a combination you'll love!
Spiced Apple Pie
Strawberry
Chocolate Syrup
Hot Fudge
Hot Caramel
Georgia Peach
Gummi Bears
Oreos
Sprinkles
Almonds
Peanuts
Whipped Cream

Meet Lainey! It's her first year behind the counter, and even before her 14th birthday (the legal working age in Iowa) she applied to work at Sugar Bowl as her first job, and then the countdown began until we could give her the green light. This isn't the first time we have had applicants counting down to their birthday so they can join our grew, and it's certainly not something we take for granted!

When she's not at Sugar Bowl you'll find her on the basketball court as she joins the high school line up this Winter. Her favorite place to eat is (a trend of the Sugar Bowl team), and her favorite flavor at Sugar Bowl? Rainbow Sherbet: Orange, Lime, and Raspberry flavored sherbets swirled together for a refreshing summer treat. (Note: This version of Sherbet is NOT dairy free)

Come visit Lainey during her shift tonight, say hello and give Rainbow Sherbet a try.

Rainbow Sherbet: The perfect match for our apparel line and blend of nostalgia, this Orange, Lime, and Raspberry sherbet swirl-in-a-cup is one of our team member's favorite flavors. Can you guess who it is?

(Tune in tomorrow to find out!)

In the meantime check out our crewnecks and tees. They make a great back-to-school addition to anyone's Fall wardrobe with colors matching all of the local districts. Come see which one is calling your name, and grab a scoop of Rainbow to instantly brighten your day.

Let's Celebrate! Whether it's a birthday, anniversary, the start to the school year, or for no other reason than you made it through a difficult week, a custom ice cream cake is a delicious way to celebrate.

First choose a 8", 10" or 12" size. Then you get to choose 1-2 flavors of ice cream and decide if you want it half and half or alternating scoops so everyone gets a little bit of both in every slice. Finally choose 1-2 toppings and this custom treat is ready to eat!

Although the youngest Todd kiddo isn't old enough to work on site just yet, Leyton has never passed up an opportunity to sample along the way, so when Dad (aka Sugar Bowl Owner, Nathan) offered the option for his first ice cream cake on his birthday, he immediately said YES and already had his options picked out: Ultimate Oreo + Oreos + Hot Fudge, and judging by the look on his face it was well received! Showing it off to family who live long-distance one responded with "That looks like what will be waiting for me in Heaven someday!" The response was simple:
"Wait no more. This isn't Heaven. It's Iowa."😉

Place your cake order today via [email protected].
(Preferred 24 hours notice so it can set overnight before traveling.)
