Today was a day of lasts for Taylor.

Her last time vacuuming.
Her last time sweeping.
Her last time rolling silverware.
Her last time wiping down tables.

As you can see, she was absolutely devastated.

Then something strange happened…

She clocked out for the last time and suddenly seemed to recover remarkably fast. 😂

Today is Tay’s last day with us at Route 66 Cafe.

She’s been with us for quite some time, and we’ve had the privilege of watching her go from those first-day jitters to being the kind of employee we can throw just about anything at and know she’s got it.

Now she’s moving on to bigger and better things. She’s starting college and getting a head start working in the industry she plans to build her future in while she studies.

We hate losing a good one, but this is exactly the kind of reason we’re happy to lose one.

Tay, we’re proud of you, we’re going to miss you, and we can’t wait to see where life takes you.

Just remember, you can fly the coop, but you’ll always have a home here at Route 66 Cafe.

WE ARE NOT CLOSING.

We’ve had quite a few calls today asking if Route 66 Cafe is closing, and some people have even skipped coming in because they thought today was our last day.

It’s not us.

The other restaurant using “Route 66” in its name is closing today. They are NOT affiliated with Route 66 Cafe and never have been.

And having the Facebook button at the bottom of their website link directly to OUR page certainly hasn’t helped the confusion.

Route 66 Cafe is OPEN, doing better than ever before, and we aren’t going anywhere, EVER. 😂

Know somebody who likes working in a hot kitchen, moving fast, talking a little trash, and somehow enjoying themselves through all of it?

Route 66 Cafe is hiring a full-time Kitchen Expeditor / Plater.

You’ll be the person making sure every plate is right, every side is there, and nothing leaves the kitchen looking like it survived a car wreck.

You’ll need to be quick, organized, dependable, and able to handle a busy kitchen without emotionally collapsing over a missing side of gravy.

Is it hot back there? Absolutely.

Is it fast-paced? Very.

Will somebody probably yell, “WHO NEEDS TOAST?” at least 47 times a shift? Also yes.

But boring? Never.

We have some sad news, Sam has passed…

…on the opportunity to keep working with us because apparently getting married and moving to another state with her husband is “more important.”

In just a few months, she became the life of the party, a customer favorite, and our leading provider of sarcasm and unnecessary commentary.

Tomorrow, Thursday, is her last day, so come give her a hard time and say goodbye, if you want 🙄

We’ll also have a donation jar out to help her hit the road, and not come back, please fill it for us…

Gas money, snacks, whatever gets her out of here faster.

We hope he’s worth it, Sam. You’re dead to us 😂

Alright, alright… you win.

It’s been just about a YEAR since we’ve done these, and after hearing “When are the Reubens coming back?” enough times, we finally gave in.

TODAY at 11, the Reuben is back.

Slow-cooked meat, sliced in-house, Swiss, sauerkraut, Thousand Island, grilled rye… the whole beautiful mess.

Limited quantities, so don’t come strolling in at 1:30 acting like we have any left lol 😂😂
