Dunhill Hotel The 60-room Dunhill Hotel is Charlotte's only historic, boutique hotel. Decades before The Dunhill Hotel would open, local architect Louis Asbury Sr.

was entranced by the great Italian craftsmen who created cathedrals famous for their soaring, elegant roof lines. Today, The Dunhill Hotel stands distinct on the Charlotte skyline, an amalgam of American, British, and Italian influences, something those with an eye for period detail can detect. Opened in 1929 as the Mayfair Manor apartment hotel, with half of its original 100 rooms permanent residences, today's Dunhill Hotel is a thoughtful evolution. A full restoration and various on-going aesthetic improvements all share a common goal--to celebrate the original vision of Mr. Asbury, with a nod to the needs of the modern traveler.

The Dunhill opened in 1929, the same decade The Great Gatsby is set in, and the building has held onto its Jazz Age character ever since. Designed by Louis Asbury Sr., it sits one block from the Belk Theater, where Gatsby plays through Sunday. Pull out your pearls and pinstripes, because the Jazz Age is back in uptown Charlotte. The Great Gatsby takes the stage at the Belk Theater October 13-18, and The Asbury is setting the table with three courses one block away.

Our pre-show dinner is a toast to the roaring twenties, with a menu of dapper and flapper-worthy dishes. Swipe through to see every course. Dinner is served nightly from 5 to 6:15 p.m. for $45 per person, timed to get you to your seat before curtain.

Dunhill Hotel opened its doors in 1929, so this building knows a thing or two about the era that inspired Gatsby. As an Asbury diner, you can park for free in the Fifth Third Bank garage behind the hotel, enjoy dinner and take a short stroll to the show. Want to make a night of it? Here is a glimpse into a guest's stay at The Dunhill. Afternoons are for wandering uptown, and evenings end with dinner at The Asbury and a drink in our lobby bar. Mornings start slowly on triple-sheeted beds. These small details have made The Dunhill a home base in uptown Charlotte since 1929.
