The Asbury Modern Southern dining at The Dunhill Hotel in uptown Charlotte In 1929, the Charlotte architect designed what is now The Dunhill Hotel.

The Asbury restaurant, nestled in the lobby of the city’s only historic boutique hotel, is named in honor of Louis Asbury, Sr. Today, our modern Southern restaurant honors the past, celebrates the seasons, and looks forward with celebrated chef Tim Groody at the helm.

Pull out your pearls and pinstripes, because the Jazz Age is back in uptown Charlotte. The Great Gatsby takes the stage at the Belk Theater October 13-18, and The Asbury is setting the table with three courses one block away.

Our pre-show dinner is a toast to the roaring twenties, with a menu of dapper and flapper-worthy dishes. Swipe through to see every course. Dinner is served nightly from 5 to 6:15 p.m. for $45 per person, timed to get you to your seat before curtain.

Dunhill Hotel opened its doors in 1929, so this building knows a thing or two about the era that inspired Gatsby. As an Asbury diner, you can park for free in the Fifth Third Bank garage behind the hotel, enjoy dinner and take a short stroll to the show. Want to make a night of it? Blumenthal ticket holders can stay at The Dunhill at a special rate.

Gather round, if you dare. On Friday, October 23 at 6 p.m., the spirits of uptown Charlotte are joining us for dinner and a stay. The evening opens with hors d'oeuvres and a complimentary glass of bubbly, followed by a seated three-course dinner in our private event space. Between courses, an expert from Nightly Spirits will share tales of Dunhill Hotel's haunted past, ghostly legends from our neighbors at Carolina Theatre CLT and eerie stories from Charlotte's history.

Dinner-only tickets are sold out, but those brave enough can still book the room package which includes two tickets to the dinner, complimentary self-parking and a $30 per person breakfast credit at The Asbury the next morning.

Space is very limited, and the spirits do not like to be kept waiting.

We would like to take a moment to appreciate the Delmonico. It is a marinated 8-ounce ribeye, and it comes with your choice of two sides, so the only hard part is choosing which two. Pull up a chair any night this week. Dinner runs Monday through Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. and until 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

The po boy and The Dunhill were born the same year. In 1929, brothers Bennie and Clovis Martin fed striking streetcar workers for free at their New Orleans sandwich shop. The sandwich they served that year became a New Orleans classic.

Our version is fried catfish with pickle slices, shredded lettuce and tomato. It is on the lunch menu Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The gallery wall in our dining room is too wide for a single frame, so we gave it two. Like North Carolina, it runs from the mountains to the coast. Swipe to see the whole wall.
