Do you know OUR Muffin Man?

Tony Darden has worked with our family for 20 years. He started with us as our Grill Master at our Beavercreek Restaurant, The Wellington Grille (1998-2022)!

As a second job, Tony started doing prep and baking 6 blueberry muffins every other day at our original Blue Berry Cafe in Bellbrook…all the way back in 2009!

Soon he made his first “designer muffin” - it was a chocolate chip cherry muffin and he famously named it the “Stud Muffin” 😂!!!

Now you see that Stud Muffin on our tshirts!

After a restructuring of our staff in 2018 - we started with a fresh crew, keeping only two employees - Tony and one of our servers, Stefanie. (She would leave for a short while, but I am happy to report that she has been back with us at our Kettering location since we opened!

2018 was THE roughest year of our history! My Uncle had cancer and we wanted him to focus on fighting that stupid cancer (which he did and is doing much better! 💕)

Because of Tony’s loyalty to us, Ray and I made him a business partner in 2019. One of the Best decisions we ever made.

People ask us why muffins aren’t actually on our menu…it’s mainly because before our Kettering Landlord, Winsupply 💕, bought Tony a double Convention Oven…Tony could only make 18 muffins at a time. They would sell out in minutes - before he could even get them out of the pan! Well, Tony gate keeps the magic in his muffins (he talks to them - I’ve tried to talk to them but they don’t listen to me 😂) and well, he is a human pushing into his 70s!

So we just want him to enjoy this season of his career and he bakes when he can bake (which is still 30+ hours a week) - he’s a pretty awesome fella and we are so proud he is part of us!

Let me tell you about our May the Fourth be with you Wine Dinner!

(A little late, but have to show off this amazing and super fun wine dinner!!!)

We would like to thank Megan Walter from Vintage Wines! She chooses all of our wines for all of our dinners! She always does a wonderful job!

Our 70 guests were welcomed with light sabers and a “green milk” cocktail!

We all moved outside for a group picture - totally had to do that !!

Then moved to reserved seating in both of our dining rooms!

And that’s where the fun began!

The menu was a mix of Galactic themed food while paying homage to our favorite dishes from my families’ dinner restaurants over the last 50 years!

The staff had two days to transform our dining rooms while Chef Jaime and crew worked in the kitchen preparing all the dishes!

Memorial Day:
A U.S. Federal Holiday observed on the Monday of May dedicated to honoring and mourning military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. 🇺🇸

A long time friend and classmate of mine, Andrew Alexander - retired Navy, reminded me years ago the true meaning of Memorial Day. This was probably 10 years ago.

Last year, WHIO News Anchor, James Brown donated two of his hand crafted Charcuterie Boards - his two boards raised over $1000 to help us make meals for our community!

The two lucky winners also received a gift certificate from us to “fill” the board!

And so we filled one board today for a very special event! We hope they loved it!

I just love our Kettering and Bellbrook Communities!!! 🫐💕

It’s been a busy month of catering, a busy Mothers Day Weekend and why not throw in college (including my own kid!) and high school graduations - we are TIRED but we decided to do one more event…

Fleurs de Fete at Carillon Park!

We prepared 1100 “Brunch de Fete Bites” and Chef Jaime, Kelley, Kelly, Nathan and Pammy happily served them to the super friendly guests of this super fun wine festival!

We used to participate at Fleurs de Fete many years ago with our Beavercreek restaurant, The Wellington Grille…we were so happy to be a part of such a wonderful event!

What is a Brunch de Fete Bite?!?

Blueberry & Red Wine braised beef on a maple and butter soaked pancake topped with horseradish cream, corn and carrot microgreens and a, of course…a fresh blueberry! 🫐

A lot of people were surprised and happy to see us! Who would have thought a little ol’ breakfast place could put together such a perfect bite!

Congratulations to our Chef Jaime! She is amazing and all this was because of her !!!

We had a lot of fun putting this little bite together…but not gonna lie…I’m so happy to have a near empty catering calendar for June! 🤪 This mama needs a rest! Lol

It was all 🫐GIRL POWER last night at the Pink Ribbon Good - Party with a Purpose (well, except for the Muffin Man who slipped in to cook the steaks but we were too busy to get a picture 🤦🏻‍♀️) !

What did Chef Jaime prepare??

How did We get involved with PRG?
Quick little history lesson 💕👏💪🏽🫐

💕We were one of the first groups in the Dayton area to raise money for PRG! We have been holding events and volunteering our time to PRG since 2010!

💕PRG offers healthy meal service for the household, rides to treatment, cleaning essentials, and peer support for clients going thru breast cancer stages 0-3 and/or gynecological cancer stages 0-2

💕Pink Ribbon Good is growing Nationwide - with locations in San Francisco, Louisville, St Louis, Buffalo, Columbus, and Cincinnati…but we are honored to have this great organization’s headquarters right here in Dayton!

💕All monies raised in Dayton stay in Dayton 💪🏽

A truly great organization that we are so proud to support. They are like family to us and they are doing such great things!

Let’s talk about yesterday!!! 💐

My baby graduated Suma Cum Laude from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering!

And while I would not have missed her graduation for anything…the fact that graduation was on the busiest restaurant day of the year was a little stressful!!! 🤪

I would like to thank our managers & Supervisors:
Kettering - Eli, Mark, Dayana, and Jau’more
Bellbrook - Melayna, Lala, Daphne, and Sandra

I would also like to thank our entire TEAM - they crushed it!!! Bellbrook had an issue with equipment and until my Uncle Ray got it fixed (he’s pretty amazing like that) the team remained calm and focused. Kettering - they were also in BEAST mode AND like Bellbrook - they stayed calm and focused and all were rewarded with a busy and successful Mother’s Day!

Thank you to Chef Jaime, The Muffin Man, and Dot’s Market Bellbrook! Dot’s for 150pc of their so yummy Broaster Chicken, Tony for picking it up and delivering to both locations, and Chef Jaime for making a super delicious Veggie Pasta Salad so our staff could have a yummy family meal after a busy day!

And lastly, I would like to thank our 27 BBCafe Mommas (and Mommas to be 💕) that worked on Mother’s Day! They never complained and they did what needed to be done!

It is because of all of these people - my Work Family- that I was able to have the BEST day celebrating my kid!

Thank you to our customers - you keep us going and we promise to always be humble and grateful that you choose to patronize our restaurants!

Update on our fundraising efforts for the Wheeler Family….

First…a message from the family:

“We are overwhelmed by the generosity of our friends, family, and the city of Bellbrook. Nothing will fill the void left by the loss of my mother, but the amount of love we are receiving is really comforting. Thank you all for your generosity and for the thoughts and prayers we have received.”

And here is where we are right now…

Thursday, May 7th, we hosted a Bellbrook Sugarcreek Chamber of Commerce Lunch! It was a full house as many came to wish a Happy Retirement to long time Dots Market Store Manager Steve Laux. The staff made a bucket and they passed that bucket around the lunch and our business owners filled it - with over $1000!

We have been (and still are) receiving cash donations at both locations. A gentleman stopped by our Kettering location earlier this week and put money in an envelope for Joe…he went to high school with him.

At the end of the day, we graciously handed an envelope with $1306 to Sandra and she was overwhelmed and very emotional. She feels so thankful for all of our customers giving her hugs and well, just being there for her. The money is now with the family and we are continuing to collect.

We still have over $540 in our Venmo account that we will give to the family next week.
