El Tesoro is built on a labor of love. Starting with a love of Mexican food and a passion for serving the city of Atlanta, Alan Raines worked with the Lugo-Soto family to invest in a small, dilapidated corner in Edgewood. Those original 14 seats grew quickly into spreading more love, more tinga, more mezcal, through more of our city. We currently employ 125 Atlantans, and we serve two distinct and diverse neighborhoods of Atlanta with delicious Mexican-inspired food and drinks.
When Alan decided to open a third location, he entered into a $300,000 loan agreement with venture capitalist company Homegrown, as an Atlanta based alternative to traditional Big Banks. Homegrown is a Georgia based lender, conglomerating together local emergent entrepreneurs and bundling their debt to local investors. Unfortunately, Flock Safety is a part of the Atlanta investment community. After learning that Flock became a 1/3 investor in his loan, Alan is on a speedier-than-ever course to pay off his loan. Alan is no supporter of Flock, and is staunchly anti-ICE. We are about 25% done paying through that loan, and 19 days away from opening that third location, which will speed up the payoff even quicker.
Tesoro is resolutely focused on building Community. We are working with Organized Neighbors of Edgewood to prevent the FLOCK and police surveillance takeover of Edgewood, our OG location. We are working quickly to correct our actions, in what we believed was a community-first approach of building a great neighborhood spot in South Downtown.
