Estrellita was never built by Chef Walt and me alone. This is another moment that proves just that.

After nearly two years of work alongside Sarah Hawk .j.hawk and her legal team, we are honored to welcome Chef Din Carlo “Chef C” our new Executive Sous Chef to Estrellita. Together, we believed his talent, discipline, and deep understanding of Filipino cuisine deserved an international stage.

Our petition and his O-1 Visa approval are more than professional achievements. It was bayanihan brought to life by a collective act of faith, advocacy, and cultural preservation. Chef C’s placement in the ranks of our operation along with his talent, community mentorship and education were affirmed by pillars of the community in PI and the U.S, including Queen of the Filipino Food Movement Nicole Ponseca , Honorary Consul General Ray Donato , esteemed Journalist Lenn Almaden-Thornhill , Professor Dr. Rob Helfenbein , Travel Journalist and creative event planner and marketing company Sean O’Keefe , and many others who reminded us that the task of pioneering an entire culture and cuisine cannot be carried alone. Thank you so much for your consideration and contribution to our growth! An O-1 Visa isn’t issued because people like you. It’s approved because the talent, hard work, discipline and skill speaks too loudly for the U.S. Immigration Department to deny.

Maraming salamat to everyone who believed in this vision. A very special thank you to Tita Chica Zwei’s mom and our dear friend, whose guidance and connection helped make this possible. This milestone not only becomes a catalyst for Chef Din Carlo’s culinary journey, but also strengthens Estrellita’s mission to honor classic, heritage cooking and allows us to continue being a beacon for Filipino culture and cuisine throughout the American South and beyond.

The beautiful thing about Bayanihan is that nobody carries the weight of their world alone. Welcome to the Team Chef C! Estrellita continues to be a restaurant built by the people and for the people.

ATTENTION‼️Our Uber Eats merchant tablet is on the fritz! Please use DoorDash for your deliveries or order online for pick-up!

We are working diligently to solve this issue, but it seems to be a “technical issue” or “patch failure” amongst many users (whatever that means).

But don’t let this deter you, because you are resourceful and diligent, and we can get through this together. For now, please use the alternative ordering opportunities for getting your hands on some fresh Filipino food!

Tonight we are celebrating Joddie and Fredrik’s big day! Thus shutting our doors for dinner Friday 5/22. We will be open for lunch service last seating will be 2pm.

Saturday it’s back to the grind as usual! We will be here rocking fresh fire roasted Filipino flavors. See you on the “flip” side!

We love love, and tomorrow we are pulling out the bells and whistles making memories for family and friends that will last a lifetime, and that’s just beautiful! ❤️

We have officially outgrown our humble 523 square foot space in Grant Park and are so excited to expand our footprint to our new location this year!

Yesterday the juice was loose! Thanks to an entire industry and all the foodies out there that showed us love and appreciate the hard work and dedication that goes into our daily grind and respecting the livelihood and well being of our staff. They, above all, deserve an operation that is consistent and predictable that allows them to manage their time accordingly. Period.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming. Nilaga is an ancestral cooking method, which means to boil. It is the general term for boiled soup, often using brisket, or short ribs. Calling nilaga ancestral is more about honoring its continuity, simplicity, and cultural memory, a dish that existed before us, has adapted over time, and still feeds people the same way it always has.

Come through for some Nilaga. We offer it in its simplest form because nothing is more traditional than some downright ancestral heritage cooking.

Our little star, Estrellita, was born in the dark of night. You might know it, on the space-time continuum, as the COVID pandemic. When iconic mom and pop restaurants throughout ATL were closing, we began our restaurant journey.

In 2022, when we were faced with the possibility of shuttering our shop, our followers, family, and friends lifted us up and said, “Oh, uh, uh. Not today.” We have never forgotten the kindness, compassion, and faith you showed in our ability to succeed. In that moment, Estrellita became the people’s restaurant, bolstered by your love and financial support. Without each and every one of you, we would not be where we are today, expanding to South Downtown while maintaining our distinction as one of only three Filipino Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurants in the United States. Our story, is your story.

Last Thursday, during Filipino Food Month, we had the honor of receiving a grant from and Mayor Andre Dickens , further solidifying that an investment in Estrellita is an investment in our culture and community. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. 🙏🏽
