One reason I love doing home improvement work is because I love transforming something old and worn out that nobody would want into something fantastic. Doesn't matter if it's a whole run down house, an outdated kitchen or bath or just a set of old concrete steps, it's the step by step process that shapes a vision into a new reality that is so enjoyable to me. These steps had definitely seen better days. They are now smiling beautifully again❤️❤️❤️

How to do a solid paver base for a packaged shed.

Note: If you don't mind it being raised a bit, a wood framed base would be quicker, less expensive and easier for most DIYers.

1. Select your site considering how you will mow around- too close to a fence can be a problem. Check local code, depending on where you live, there may be restrictions to set backs from your home or property lines and you also may be required to get a permit.

2. Square the area you need for the base, I use rebar stakes and string, measure each side and make sure your corner to corner diagonal measurements are the same. In this case, I used 2x4's to frame the area to conserve materials needed. Doing so allows you to build the exact size of the shed. If you aren't going to frame a form you need to dig out about 12" more in every direction around it to insure the base is solid.

3. Dig down to solid ground removing all top soil. I remove the grass by cutting sod squares about 12"x12" first so that I can reuse them around the shed when completed. Store your remaining top soil on cardboard or plastic to reuse as backfill and keep the surrounding yard clean. In this case, I removed 5 to 6 inches total and knew I was on solid ground when it was solid clay.

4. Install your 2x4 form, if using one, make it level all the way around at the thickness of your pavers lower than your finished height of the completed base. You can insure it's square by following your string between the rebar stakes and by measuring each side and the corner diagonals. Insure it's level using a level.

5. Fill, level, and compact enough drainage gravel to leave a couple of inches to the top of your form. I use a level to screed it, a straight 2x4 is fine too. It's a good idea to saturate it with water and use a tamper to make sure it is settled as good as possible- it doesn't have to be perfectly level because you have more layers to add.

6. Add about an inch of paver base, level and compact. Again spray it down and use a tamper to level. Again this layer doesn't have to be perfectly level so don't waste too much time trying, just get it close.

7. Add about an inch of leveling sand, if using a form it should be equal with the top of the form when leveled and compacted using water to saturate and a tamper. This layer is where you want to spend your time getting it as level as possible.

8. Use your rebar stakes with string to install the pavers square. Use a rubber mallet to tap them down to level or add leveling sand to raise them to level depending on what you need.

9. If your shed comes with a rubber or plastic base, sit it on the completed pavers, before filling the joints, and make any necessary adjustments to make sure it sits square and level on your pad.

10. Remove the base and fill the joints. Since a shed will be sitting on the pavers and they won't be exposed you can use your leveling sand to fill the joints instead of the more expensive polymeric sand. Sweep the sand in with a broom filling the joints completely. Saturate with water to compact and repeat brooming sand in to fill any areas that need more fill.

11. Build the shed following all directions closely, step by step. All of these packaged sheds are engineered to be constructed in a particular order. Usually having two people is necessary. If you are a very experienced builder, one person can do it like I did. But certain steps are easier with 2 people even for someone with my experience. Also, some of these types of sheds are more compatible than others for a DIY project. Read the instructions carefully before trying to assemble yourself and if you find it too complicated for you, ask questions to understand how to assemble or hire someone like me to assemble for you. Most of these types of sheds have online directions available so you can often review the assembly instructions before purchasing the particular shed you want. This particular shed is Lifetime brand and would be difficult for an inexperienced DIYer to do but not impossible.

Thanks to all of you who wished me a Happy Birthday. You guys always make me feel loved and appreciated. A Big thank you to all of you who donated to my tool library wish list fund. And an extra special thank you to Harvey Mullet who unbelievably donated $1,200 for it in addition to everything he had already done.

In all, you guys donated about $2,000 collectively and made it possible to buy at least one or two of everything on that wish list. I now have 20v Craftsman battery operated lawnmowers, weedeaters, drills, impacts, circular saws, reciprocating saws, angle grinders, hedge trimmers, polesaws, chainsaws, sanders and leaf blowers available for loan. Still need a few more, especially more mowers and weedeaters as I plan to convert mostly to battery operated lawn equipment for many reasons. This is a big efficiency boost that helps me personally in managing the library and is a huge win for our entire community. Appreciate you all so much❤️❤️❤️

Hey folks, Tuesday August 11th is my 59th birthday. In celebration of that I thought I'd ask anyone who can or would like to support AATL to consider donating towards or purchasing 20v Craftsman tools. Many of you may remember when Harvey Mullet made an incredible donation of Craftsman tools a few weeks ago. Some of those were Craftsman 20v impact guns and drills- they are great tools! Since then I found out offers over 100 tools that work with that same battery. Right now I have a hodge podge of mismatched tools with all kinds of different batteries to charge and a lot of tools that are corded that would be great to have cordless instead.

If you follow me much, you know how much efficiency matters to me being able to run the tool library by myself. Getting tools that all use the same batteries would be a huge efficiency jump and at the same time upgrade a lot of worn tools. I'm putting links to the ones at the top of my wish list from . You can order online for pickup and set me, Shannon Hill, as the pickup person for convenience. You can purchase and drop off here. Besides Lowe's, Ace Hardware also carries the same tools. Or if you like, I'll include links to give donations towards purchasing them. Having at least two of all of them or more would be optimal, certainly don't have to worry about getting multiples of any of these if you and someone else donate the same ones

Appreciate all of you who have supported the tool library in the past and continue to help me meet the needs of our community ❤️❤️❤️

The free stuff yesterday was a big hit. Probably around 200 folks found things they needed. All that is left is a small stack of finish trim and these two tires. I'll leave them out today if anyone wants to stop by to see if you can use any of it. Appreciate everyone who donates items I can give away on free stuff days. Also, we were able to get the attic cleaned out to make room for more Christmas trees and decorations, so if you have any of those you'd want to donate I now have room for them. You can drop them or other donations off at anytime. It's helpful if when you drop off if you message me a pic letting me know you did. Thanks!

Update: All the free stuff is gone except for the two tires and a few odds and ends of finish trim. If you missed out today, like and follow the page. I do these give aways fairly often when I accumulate enough stuff to make it worth coming. If you are unfamiliar with Free stuff days from AATL. These days happen at random and last until everything is gone. Most of the time a huge majority is gone within an hour or two. From video it looks like a couple of hundred people came within 2 hours of me making this post. I never do holds and or know what's still available because I put it out and leave for work. Watch the page for more Free Stuff days.

Free Stuff Day today! 1604 Spring Park and no, the riding mower or any of the stuff inside the garage isn't part of it. Lots of other great stuff. Bread maker, auto cat litter box, TV and TV wall mount, air purifier, cat poles, cat carrier, end table, tires (size in pics) would make great tree swing, pavers, landscape block, tile, decorative tile, all kinds of finish trim, stair pickets, treated lumber, insulation board, tools etc.

First come first serve. I can't hold it for you because I won't be here, which also means it's useless to ask me if something is still available. It is all out and ready for you to come get it. Have a great day!

Before/After of a small porch facelift. New porch posts and trim, added a storm door and handrail for steps. I never stop being amazed at how much a small glam up like this gives such a huge improvement. Message me if you could use a similar upgrade or need any other home improvements.

Folks, I was working outside in the direct sun yesterday when I looked at my phone and saw this. Said it felt like 115, I was thinking more like 150 :) The heat this week has been brutal and it put a lot of strain on people's AC units causing folks to be without air in their house at all. Several of you have reached out for window units to borrow. Unfortunately, I no longer offer them. I really wanted to be a resource for folks needing emergency air but it turns out these units aren't built for being moved around frequently. They kept going bad and I couldn't afford to keep buying new ones.

So instead, I'm going to encourage you to comment on this post if you need a window ac unit. I'm also encouraging any of you who may have an extra AC unit to respond to the request and see if we can match up people in need with anyone who can help them. Hopefully this works out for several of you.

Hope everyone has a Happy and safe 4th of July. Happy 250 America 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
