Te reo Māori is one of the treasures of Aotearoa.

For some, it is the language of home, whānau and identity.

For others, it may be a language they’re only just beginning to discover.

We want our café to be a place where both belong.

So next week, Colonial Cafe is creating a little space for Te reo Māori — not just to look at, but to hear, learn and use.

You might learn one word.

You might teach us one.

You might simply say “kia ora” a little more often.

Whatever your starting point…

WHAT DOES “KŌRERO” MEAN? 🌿

Kōrero means to speak, talk, converse or have a conversation.

And that’s exactly what we want to encourage.

During our upcoming Te reo Māori week, we’re inviting everyone to learn a little, try a little and share a little.

You don’t need to be fluent.

You don’t need to get every word perfect.

Just have a go.

Because language grows when we use it together.

Kōrero Māori. Kōrero together.
