Heads up on the Pepe Bridge

REMINDER: Pepe Bridge overnight closures start Tuesday

Following our earlier story, NZTA is reminding Tairua locals and travellers that the SH25 Pepe Bridge will be closed overnight from 7pm to 6am on the following nights:

Tuesday 12 May – Thursday 14 May
Monday 18 May – Thursday 21 May

The bridge will reopen for 5 minutes on the hour (or 15 minutes either side) at 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, 12 midnight, 2am and 4am, allowing vehicles to cross during the closure windows.

The closures are to allow piling work and the relocation of services on the bridge, ahead of construction starting in July on the new two-way bridge and pedestrian walkway.

Plan ahead if you’re travelling through Tairua overnight on those dates. NZTA has apologised for the disruption.

With the upcoming weather event approaching, we’ve made the call to close our doors this Sunday.

While we’re not exactly sure what to expect, the warnings in place are enough for us to take a “better safe than sorry” approach. The safety of our team and community always comes first 💛
