Tonight we celebrate the sound that reshaped a generation: Grunge Night across Ding D**g Lounge & Dead Witch.

Run times are out so if you’re planning to come through, book your tickets to lock it in now!

Entry starts at $10 and cause all ticket profits go to Lifeline, you’re welcome to add an extra $5–$10 on top if you’re able. Every extra dollar will be passed on to their crisis support services.

So why Lifeline?

When Grunge first became a thing in the 90s, it cut through that polished, corporate gloss of the late ’80s and early ’90s. It championed authenticity over image, emotion over perfection and community over consumerism. The funny thing is, this is all massively relevant to us now! Grunge brought conversations about mental health, feminism, alienation and environmentalism into the mainstream.

Lifeline carries that same spirit of confronting the real stuff beneath the surface. They provide free, confidential support to anyone dealing with anxiety, depression, loneliness or crisis. It's 24/7, no judgement... no barrier to entry. They’re a lifeline in the literal sense and their work saves lives every single day.

Supporting them tonight is a continuation of what grunge stood for... showing up for people who feel unseen, unheard or overwhelmed. This is the scene taking care of its own.

From Ding D**g Lounge to Spark Arena

Back in 2022, The Boondocks walked into Ding D**g Lounge for their first ever show and today they were announced to be on the lineup for The Rock 2000 at Spark Arena, with The Living End, Devilskin, Villainy and the legendary DJ Kane Hawkins on 25 September!

A band from the Āwhitu Peninsula in South Auckland, starting out on a tiny stage in a grassroots venue, starting out playing every show they could get on the line-up. We thought they were so great, we even got them to play an emo night early on.... they said "f**k it we'll play some green day". All this before perfecting their sound, their performance, recording and releasing music… and upping their game. And now stepping onto one of the biggest stages in the country!

This is what happens when local artists put in the work and back themselves. Couldn't be prouder! Huge congrats to The Boondocks!

SUNDAY NIGHT LONG WEEKEND AT DING D**G LOUNGE & DEAD WITCH

Ding D**g Lounge and Dead Witch will be operating late this Sunday night in recognition of Monday’s public holiday for many Aucklanders. With multiple events happening across the city, the venue is preparing for a strong long‑weekend turnout and positioning itself as a central late‑night destination.

The main bar opens from 7pm, with Happy Hour running from 7–8pm and again from 12–1am. DJ Charlotte Gloom will be performing throughout the night, delivering a curated mix of alternative rock and genre‑spanning favourites that define the venue’s sound. Food will be available all night, giving guests the option to settle in early or recharge later in the evening.

Upstairs, Dead Witch will host Ding D**g Lounge Karaoke with Bendezu, with doors opening at 9:30pm and karaoke beginning at 10pm. To elevate the competition, the venue will award two $75 dining vouchers to standout singers before 11pm. These vouchers are to be used on the night, encouraging early participation and strong performances.

This Sunday also features major activity across Auckland, including FEAR FACTORY + Imperial Slave at Studio and the Taking Back Saturday event at Tuning Fork. Ding D**g Lounge welcomes anyone heading out for the night — whether they’re coming from a show, a scene event, or simply starting their long‑weekend late — offering a central, walk‑in‑ready environment that will run well into the early hours.

We’re taking it back to distortion, flannel and beautiful chaos as Grunge Night takes over both floors. Upstairs at Dead Witch, Skitch Hiker lead a lineup ripping through the heavy, sludgy, fuzz‑drenched heart of the 90s, from the giants like Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, Hole and STP, to the cult heroes: Mudhoney, Babes in Toyland, L7, Screaming Trees, Tad and the deep‑cut favourites only true obsessives talk about at 2am.

Downstairs, acoustic artists and DJs keep the nostalgia alive with classics, B‑sides, soundtrack gems and the mixtape staples that defined a generation.
