From a small Italian foundry in 1929, to a master wing in Auckland today.

The ZucchettiDesign story began nearly a century ago in Valduggia, a small town in Italy's Piedmont region, where Alfredo Zucchetti opened a foundry. In 1950, his son Mario shifted the focus to tapware, laying the foundations for what Zucchetti is today.

Now run by the third generation of the family, with around 400 people across four factories near Gozzano, Zucchetti still makes every piece in Italy. Long-standing collaborations with designers like Matteo Thun, Diego Grandi and Palomba Serafini Associati have made the brand one of the most respected names in Italian tapware.

The Pan Collection, designed by Ludovica Serafini and Roberto Palomba, sits firmly in that lineage. We were proud to supply it in brushed chocolate to the recent residence by Spatial Studio and Strata Architects, a home where heritage, craft and considered design come together quietly and beautifully.

Small details, big impact. The brushed chocolate finish of ZucchettiDesign's Pan S Collection brings warmth to this Grey Lynn villa renovation.

The designers client brought handwritten notes on torn-out magazine pages, they knew this would be a special project. Selections like this one are where the vision really starts to take shape, bridging the character of the original villa with a more contemporary way of living.

A closer look at the finish.

Brushed chocolate is one of the warmest, most tactile finishes in the Pan range. The colour is a soft, matte chocolate tone with real depth, achieved through a PVD coating, an ultra-thin metallic layer fused to the surface of the tap. It resists tarnishing and everyday wear, designed to hold its character over time.

What makes brushed chocolate so well suited to interiors like this one is the warmth it brings. It softens the brightness of brass, grounds a palette without the heaviness of black, and pairs beautifully with timber, stone and other natural materials.

In the residence by Spatial Studio and Strata Architects, brushed chocolate quietly anchors a bathroom palette built around warm, layered textures. A finish chosen as carefully as the form it sits on.

ZucchettiDesign's Veloce is the meeting point of two design languages: the fluid movement of vintage cars, and the considered geometry of 1930s architecture. One brings warmth and tactility, the other brings structure and presence.

A closer look at the design story behind Pan.

Designed in 2004 by Italian duo Ludovica Serafini and Roberto Palomba of Palomba Serafini Associati, the Pan Collection took the classic cylindrical single-lever mixer and reimagined it through a single, quiet idea borrowed from nature.

The body of the tap is shaped like a tree trunk. The spout and handle aren't fixed onto it but emerge through a soft connection, much like a branch grafted into the trunk of a tree.

That organic, natural language is what's made Pan recognisable two decades on. It remains one of ZucchettiDesign's flagship collections, and is still handcrafted in Italy.

Palomba Serafini Associati, based in Milan, are among the most respected names in Italian design. Pan remains one of their signature works for Zucchetti.

In our next post we look more closely at the brushed chocolate finish, and what makes it so well suited to natural, layered interiors.
