Which Korean Rice Cake Are You? 🍡

In Korea, Tteok 떡 (rice cake) isn’t just food. It’s a vibe for every season. Each festival brings a different rice cake to wish for health, wealth, and good energy!✨

A. 가래떡 Garaetteok (Lunar New Year / Seollal) ❄️

👴🏻Long, cylindrical rice cakes symbolise a long life. Sliced into coin shapes for 떡국 Tteokguk, they represent wealth and financial luck for the new year.🪙

B. 화전 Hwajeon (Spring Festival / Samjinnal)🌸

Pan-fried sticky rice cakes topped with real seasonal flowers (like azaleas). Created to celebrate the arrival of spring and fresh beginnings.💐

C. 수리취떡 Surichwitteok (Summer Solstice / Dano)🍃

⛰️Made with wild mountain herbs and stamped with a wheel pattern (Surichwi). Eaten to ward off evil spirits and boost energy for the hot summer.☀️

D. 증편 Jeungpyeon (Peak Summer / Boknal)🍚

🍶Fermented with traditional Korean rice wine (Makgeolli). This gives it a soft, fluffy texture and prevents it from spoiling in hot summer heat.☁️

E. Songpyeon (Harvest Thanksgiving / Chuseok)🌾

🌙Shaped like a half-moon and filled with sweet sesame or chestnut, then steamed over fresh pine needles. The half-moon represents growth and a brighter future ahead (filling up into a full moon).🌕
