A DEER IN A DAY 🦌🔥
We’re going back to the Bronze Age for this one…
On Saturday 3rd October we’re heading to Dromid, where we’ll be firing up a Fulacht Fiadh at the Inny Tavern and cooking venison using one of Ireland’s oldest cooking methods — an earthen pit, water and stones heated red-hot in the fire.
We’ll start at 9am with the fire, a deer butchery demonstration and preparation of the venison before it goes into the Fulacht Fiadh for a long, slow cook.
There’s plenty happening throughout the day too, including a woodland walk at Tulligealane and an afternoon panel discussion on deer, hunting and wild herbivore management in Ireland.
It’s a chance to have an open conversation about our growing deer populations — hearing from hunters, farmers and others dealing with the realities on the ground, and looking at what responsible deer management actually means.
And if deer need to be managed, we also need to talk about what happens afterwards.
Venison is one of the finest wild meats we have in Ireland, and we want to get more people cooking it, eating it and appreciating it.
So after a full day of discussion, demonstration and cooking, we’ll sit down at 6pm to eat the venison that has been at the centre of the day.
On the menu:
Inny Valley slow-braised venison & porter stew
Seasonal root vegetables & champ mash
Bread & butter pudding
🎟️ Dinner tickets are €16, with proceeds donated to Nepal Flood Relief.
Tickets are available through the link in our bio.
From the deer on the hill to the food on our plate — there’s a much bigger conversation to be had.
