Ionion wines have shown their quality and style from 1842

THE IONIAN ISLANDS

The best wines of the Ionian Islands are those of Ithaca, Kefalonia, and the semi-mountainous and mountainous regions of Zakynthos.

They are quite strong and can withstand exportation and, if allowed to age, I believe they would be well received [in England] — especially the red wine of Ithaca, the finest white wine of Kefalonia, and the verdea of Zakynthos.
