Cala Hotels is proud to support ‘Kick About With A Cop’, an initiative that brings young people together through sport, teamwork and positive community engagement.

The recent season finale marked the end of another successful year, with over 50 pupils taking part in sessions throughout the programme. A huge well done to all of the young people involved and to the organisers - Action for Children - volunteers and Police Scotland officers who give their time to make it happen.

As part of our support, the team at the Caladh Inn was delighted to provide food and refreshments for everyone attending the finale.

We’re proud to play a small part in supporting such a positive initiative within our community.

Our Managing Director recently wrote a piece for Scotland on Sunday highlighting the challenges facing the hospitality sector due to the UK’s high VAT rate.

Tourism is vital to the Western Isles, supporting local jobs, businesses and communities. Yet hospitality businesses across the UK continue to operate with one of the highest VAT rates in Europe, making it harder to compete, invest and grow.

At Cala Hotels, we’re proud to employ over 160 people locally. A fairer VAT rate for hospitality would help businesses like ours continue investing in our people, our communities and the visitor experience that makes the Hebrides so special.

Staff Spotlight 🌟

Say hello to Tommy...

Tommy has been part of the team here at the Caladh Inn for over 4 years. He initially joined us as a young waiter who was keen to save enough money to get his driving licence.

Tommy has always brought great energy to the team and shown a genuine passion for customer service. After several years of hard work and dedication, he’s now been promoted to his new role as a Duty Manager. From nervous first shifts to confidently running busy services, he’s come a long way and we couldn't be prouder!

Fun fact:
Tommy spent 9 months travelling around Australia and while he was there, he got his skydiving licence… which probably explains why he’s so calm under pressure!

Favourite menu item:
“I love the desserts… especially the profiteroles.”

If you see Tommy around, make sure to say hello - but preferably not while he’s trying to sneak a profiterole from the kitchen 👀
