Yesterday was one of the most enjoyable days we’ve had since opening the deli.
The Year 6 pupils from Portreath Primary School took over the deli for the day and were involved in everything from menu planning and food preparation to customer service, cash handling and welcoming guests through the door.
We knew they’d do a good job, but they genuinely exceeded all expectations. Their customer service, attention to detail, food hygiene standards, salesmanship and pride in keeping the deli looking its best throughout the day were incredibly impressive. They should all be very proud of themselves.
We were also so impressed by the menus they created that a brunch bowl is making its way onto our menu this week. Keep an eye out for it!
A huge thank you to Miss Clark and Mrs Kerslake, who supported the children throughout the day and, most importantly, gave us the opportunity to be part of this project in the first place.
We’re also incredibly grateful to Mark and the team at Cornwall Hospitality Collective for supporting the event and funding the ingredients. Thanks to their generosity, the majority of yesterday’s takings will go directly to the children’s chosen charities.
And of course, the deli crew (plus mum!) for all the prep and keeping the cogs turning throughout the day, plus the al important washing up!
Finally, thank you to everyone in our community who came along and supported the event. Seeing the deli so busy and the children thriving in a real working environment was something special.
We’ll share an update once we’ve had our wrap-up session and can reveal how much was raised.
Same time next year? ❤️
